They have all the original film and sound assets, they can do all the remastering that needs to be done. Alliance does not have access to that stuff, they can't remaster the movies they release. They simply license movies from the US studios and are given whatever print of the movie is available at that time.
So.... Alliance is being cut a break because they only have access to crap to release? What? You're just taking issue with the workd "like"? They don't "like" to deliver second rate crud, they just "have" to deliever second rate crud! Either way, buying stuff Alliance puts out reminds me of the early DVD days when stuff was still being released on VHS and not DVD. You could buy the VHS, knowing that you'd be double-dipping one day or just wait. Nobody interested in quality would buy an Alliance release unless they HAVE to have it RIGHT NOW. If you do, more power to you.
All they're trying to do is offer us something we can't get anywhere else at the moment. What's wrong with that? I'd gladly take a not-so-great hi-def version of a movie I love to tide me over until a better version comes out. And the prices of their releases are so cheap, I don't feel like I'm being ripped off at all.
That's all great. Just not sure why you're taking issue with anyone questioning the quality of their releases. You're admitting the product is "not-so-great" yourself, so where's the argument here? You're just ok with "not-so-great" and are ok with double dipping. Nothing wrong with that, but you have to see where some people aren't gonna be as into that as you...
You can feel free to not spend your money on Alliance releases and wait years to get a better version from the US. Just please try to understand how all this business works and stop hating a company for something that's out of their control.
??? It's totally in their control! Their business is to release cheap product with leftover transfers! This doesn't make much sense... Anyone remember Goodtimes video - they'd put out cheapo EP VHS tapes. People who liked to spend very little money might like them - their business model was low quality, cheap prices. Guess what? People who cared about quality didn't like them. It is ok to not like a company that puts out substandard product. They know it's substandard. You know it's substandard. Not sure why anyone who doesn't like substandard product should be giving them a break.... beyond making the double-dippers feel better about their temporary purchase...
And, in this case, I think we all know the odds of a US release by April are pretty high. Alliance is gonna have a pretty short "exclusive" in this region.
