... except that they acknowledged the problem immediately and fixed it. I'm still willing to show them some love.

I don't think you can call it fixed until someone gets the new disks and confirms that the problems are indeed fixed.

Actually Morac makes an excellent point. How many companies have we seen promise an upcoming delivery and then months later the product is still not available? The concerns about the DTS-MA mix on Disc 2 (which isn't supposedly being fixed) make me wonder if a second round of disc fixes aren't coming (or if the first round gets delayed while the issue is being investigated). All speculation but until someone actually sees the discs, I'd consider the problem acknowledged but not yet fixed.

When people actually receive discs then it would be reasonable to consider the problem fixed. From my personal standpoint when I receive the discs, then I'll actually consider it fixed.

Also don't forget this should have been an easy problem to have caught by QA before the discs were manufactured. The first episode has a problem in the first minute and it should be obvious to a QA person or anyone who mixed the audio. That's not good that apparently no one checked it.

Replacement programs always take a good chunk of time... but I can't think of a single one I've ever participated in that didn't deliver and didn't deliver on time.

Amazon Germany has informed the season 1 customers about the replacement program today. We have to send in the defective discs. mad.gif

The strange thing is the info says I should send in discs 1, 3, 4 AND 5. What's suddenly wrong with disc 5?

"Heart of Glory" is on disc 5, and that episode has a missing effect. Maybe this is why they pushed replacements back to September. While the audio is a straightforward fix, altering the video requires re-encoding the entire episode all over again.

"We'll Always Have Paris" is also on disc 5. Maybe they found the missing 2 seconds? Fingers crossed.

Never received a response that they received my reply email with all my details, so I called. I was told I would receive the replacement discs, "when they are available." Seems like something happened between my initial email the day after release and now.

Missing effect? What's the time code?

Has anyone watched the video re upgrading of Jaws to Blu-ray? Looks like they put a lot of effort into the Upgrade. I see our Forum Movie Reviewer gave it a 100/100!
Now, do you think CBS did TNG as carefully. and thoroughly?

Don't have the time code, but here are the frames (there should be a phaser beam hitting the security guard): http://imgur.com/a/tjr4t#0

Different animals. There's an order of magnitude more film to deal with in TNG Season One. And Jaws had a cut negative ready to be scanned (although damaged in places), while all of TNG's edits had to be matched by eye to the SD version (Kodak KeyKode wasn't introduced till 1989 and I think TNG didn't use it until 1992).

Ah, interesting, thanks.

I see that two of the model shots replaced with CGI in Encounter at Farpoint were found and reintegrated in later episodes. This comparison shows the CG shot in EaF and the 6-footer in 11001001: http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/138777 . The CG shot is only in EaF and Code of Honor.

When I first saw the CG shot, I was pleased at how well they recreated the model. But wow, compared to the original 6-footer, it's nothing. I'm glad this often-used shot was found and will be included in subsequent seasons. I weep at all the HD 4-foot shots we have to endure. It's ugly compared to the graceful 6-footer.

I wonder what the story is with this one: http://randomtuesday.com/archive/Star%20Trek:%20The%20Next%20Generation/bluray/warp.gif Did they lose the shot of the 4-footer, or are they going to replace certain 4-foot model shots? Obviously they're not replacing it all because the 4-footer appears in The Inner Light.

A shame they couldn't find this shot: http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q204/jimbotron235/TNG3.jpg Perhaps ILM lost it after using it in Generations. The CGI shot is shaky, especially in the lighting. At least it's only in three episodes though.

I believe the original shot was first done for "The Best of Both Worlds, Part II", but since it was used many, many times after that, it could really be in any box from early season four to the finale -- it's just a matter of them finding it. It's very possible they'll find it before they get to finalizing "TBoBW, Pt. II", which would mean that they would probably replace the CG recreation in "The Inner Light" as well.

Hope so. There's just something "off" with the lighting of the CGI model IMO. It's a beautiful mesh, but it just doesn't look as good as the studio lit models.

I'm pretty sure this shot of the Enterprise is also stock footage, and they were able to find it, though combined with the probe. I've seen that shot in other episodes. http://tng.trekcore.com/bluray/exclusive_images/sinsinner/inner3.jpg

Fingers crossed that the footage pulled from the archives for use in ENT's These Are The Voyages wasn't misplaced by their effects team.

I've just read they are on it and fixing it for the shipments of corrected discs which have accordingly been delayed a few weeks to correct and QC all the various things that have popped up aside from the audio issues.

The audio sync is so lousy on this set it's not even funny. Not just the extras, the 7.1 tracks on some eps are noticeably off while the 2.0 mixes are perfect. I REALLY hope that CBS ditch the plonkers who signed off on this set and get in some folks who actually give a toss about what they're doing.

Glad I listened to my Inner Voice telling me to hold back on this one! Plus my cheapness, and waiting to let my kids get it for my Birthday in October, or since this Rukus came up - now for Christmas - worse case scenario - Father's Day next year!

I just started watching the set within the last week, but something has caught my eye. Anyone else notice a fairly high degree of graininess, particularly in bridge shots, on a few of the episodes on Disc 3? Hide and Q and The Big Goodbye, seemed quite grainy and it was jarring to say the least, especially since the other episodes I had watched didn't strike me as very grainy at all.

Imagination will often carry us to worlds that never were. But without it we go nowhere.

Grain is a good thing, as it is literally the image.

Film stock, especially with TV shows, was cheap and inconstant. So you get changing levels of grain in old shows frequently. I believe I've read they went to better stock around seasons 3-4 though, so it should improve.

Someone else speculated, they are just going to replace the entire set at this point. That could explain why it's no longer available on Amazon (says there's a 7 to 11 day wait) and other places.

To think if they had just waited a little longer and taken the time to do a proper QA on the set, they could have saved themselves hundreds of thousands of dollars and bad publicity. The replacement program does somewhat counteract the bad publicity (more so once the new discs actually go out), but not the loss of money.

It is likely they have pulled the set from shelves as far as further shipments go - which is what they did in the UK - and I don't know what will happen but I suspect they will re-release it in the holiday shopping period which gives them at least several weeks to fix every problem with the set.

I emailed Deluxe asking about the delay and astonishingly, I got a response 15 minutes later stating that "[they] are to receive the replacement disc by Aug 24th." which is this Friday. If that is actually the case, then the replacement discs could start going out as early as next week.

ST:TNG Blu-ray Episode Guide Inserts

I plan on doing one for each season as they're released. Proper size for printing should be 4.75 inches by 5.75 inches.

There's already a episode guide insert in the set. Granted it's not in the most obvious spot, it's actually the cover which you have to slip it from the opening on the top when the case is opened.

But as you admit, you have to either remove the cover art or disc one to see it. This allows people to look for an episode without having to remove anything -- you just open the set. smile.gif

Yeah, if they are not going to give us a proper insert for descriptions, the least they could do is stop putting it so a disc is attached right on top of it so you can't read it without removing something. I get they want to save money... but they sure aren't applying that to where it would save them the most money, you know like quality control so they don't have to replace every disc of every set they released!

Yeah baby!  It's Halloween!

I've read elsewhere that the UK region has received the replacement discs. Can anyone confirm this and which discs were received (1,3,4 expected)?
