Reference PQ and AQ.

The CGI graphics are still the best in the industry. Its so good that it makes other studios work looks like a second generation technology.

Watching this movie makes me appreciate how good the previous two installments are Still a great movie but the story is just average.

Animation is never going to be night and day in screenshots. You have to realize that there is no detail as in reality. This is still glossy solid colors for the most part albeit much sharper and more detailed and colorful than it was before. In motion the differences become more like night and day the larger TV you have. If you sit far enough away it is true that depending on who you are you might not even notice the difference on a smaller 30 inch. But the closer you get, and you should be around 5 or 6ft away on a 42 inch or so, the more you are going to notice intricate details. In motion the DVD looks like crap. Also, that they are using 24Mbps on every release shows you in truth that FILM bitrates SHOULD be higher than this to resolve any significant amount of grain or fine texture detail properly.

Yes, but when watching the BD on your HDTV with a decent setup, the Blu-ray version looks amazing. I don't know why the screenshorts don't show its amazingness.

Ok now im starting to think some of you are just crazy! Not much of a difference? The DVD looks looks a hazy mess.

Look at the last shot with the close up off buzz light year. The aliasing is so bad, the BD is sharp as a tack.

I think some of you guys say that stuff on purpose or your really just spoiled by all this HD stuff. I hope is the latter.

EDIT-

I humbly suggest that if you can't see the night-and-day difference you need a new monitor or an eye exam. Compare Ken's hair for one glaring example of the Blu-ray improvement.

The Blu-Ray looks significantly better than the DVD. It is very noticeable.

...but, if you have a great PJ and screen to go with it, and, if the DVD was all there is, the DVD would be sufficient. Some PJs put out a super pic when the DVD is upscaled thru a good BD/HDDVD/DVD upscaler. Of course, we have BD, so, we're in heaven!

...finally retired and spending time in my HT!!!

My equipment consists of: Epson 9500 UB Projector(Avical ISFd); 110" JKP Affinity Screen; Panny BD30 Player, Tosh HDA1 Player; Definitive Speakers (Center, Towers, Rear); Onkyo 608 A/V Receiver; Nevo Q50 Remote; TWC DVR-HD Cable Box; 5 Bello chairs.

That's the movie size. It's 47.7GB with the other content on disc 1.

The differences are night and day. Xylon just needs to pick shots that have more detail in focus.

Not true in my experience. Animation has benefited from Blu-ray as much if not more so than many live action films.

Sleeping Beauty, Ponyo, Cars, Beauty and the Beast, etc are what I would consider night and day. Even How to Train Your Dragon (just posted by Xlyon) has some pretty big differences.

Toy Story 3 has many narrow depth of field shots and a lot of active motion characters and camera work so the clarity that you normally rely on for sharpness cues isn't as obvious.

But even then, if people don't see the detail in Bonnie's hair in Xylon's cap above as a big improvement then all I can suggest is save a few bucks and buy DVD only. ^_^;

Um, not true. I don't see much of a difference in those screenshots. But when I pop my BD in my player and watch it on my HDTV, it looks simply amazing. I am wowed. These screenshots fail to wow me in the same way, which is odd being that these pics are captured from the same BD.

Absolutely! In that last shot, the Blu-ray shot clearly shows the "Sheriff" on Woody's badge, and it's just a complete smudge on DVD.

Movies look their best when they look like movies. More Patton-esque remasters!

Not to mention, you can actually see the stitching on the insides of his elbows on the BD shot, while it blends in with the shirt on the DVD.

Also, Buzz is more clearly a Space Ranger instead of a Space Ranger.

I would also point to the wide shot of the room for a real comparison, too. You can almost read the map on the BD shot, despite how small it is.

Exactly. I would love to see an entire 50 gigs devoted to a movie and all the other crap put on a second disc.
