I'd love to see it in the theaters too but not here in NYC

LEGEND and both CONANs also looked terrific. So hopefully this is a bit of an upswing for them...

Universal compensated for the good video quality on Conan The Barbarian by further screwing up the soundtrack.

Looks somewhat OK for being Universal, but hardly a recent transfer. On par with Casino I'd say.

For me personally the screens have to much contrast and has a sharpened look to it but its no big lebowski, but then again that was a trainwreck for PQ.

Good movie and I'm happy that it is getting a good transfer.

This is an 80's action movie that was inspired by the drug wars that took place in Miami around that time. The murder rate in Miami was extremely high in that period and it was an opportune moment to make a film indirectly inspired by it. Miami at that time was called the "murder capital of the world." So while this movie might seem like a big exaggeration to some, it actually represents what some parts of Miami was going through. Plenty of "Marimberos" rose during that time.

It's one of my most wanted Blu-ray's and I'm happy to be getting it in a couple of weeks.

It's a Universal out of date catalogue master, only this time they left it alone.

If you are in this thread to debate the merits of the film, please do not bother to post. We offer a movie forum for that type of discussion. It's one thing for the topic of the film to come up organically, but to post just to discuss the film and nothing of the transfer, audio, video, extras etc....than that's off topic for this particular forum.

Thanks
Ron

This movie in no way received a good transfer they just merely used an outdated transfer that has EE and noise reduction while not as severe as Big lebowski or they did scan again and applied old school sharpening and noise reduction in places.

The grain looks poor or odd in some of those shots, but this is Universal we're talking about it and looks like a huge upgrade from the DVD I had.

It's definitely got an aggressively sharp look, more so than I would've expected from a near-30-year-old anamorphic show. Still, it's clearly not a Lebowski-style DNR cluster****. not in those caps anyway.

My steelbook's on the way, can't wait to get a crack at some Tony Montana goodness in HD.

That's true. Sometimes you don't really notice those things in motion.

If the reviewer at blu-ray.com notices it with most of them being as blind as they are its bad. Anyway it has a digital look to me even without the grain the way it is.

Hmm this has that same type of weird grain over the whole picture, backgrounds and all - (digital grain? not sure of the name of it) that is on The Greatest Story Ever Told - although this isn't as bad as that one. It makes everything look really rough... I guess it's just an effect of using an old master.

this screenshot shows it pretty well.

Yes, it's probably the same master used for the 2003 anniversary DVD.

Just wondering whether Jurassic Park Trilogy will be the first set of catalog titles to be properly remastered. Am I hoping too much? I would be pleasantly surprised if they look excellent.

Blu-ray : 340

PQ has always been a problem with this film.

I might consider picking it up if it includes the original audio.

Newer audio fx = staying away from, no matter how good it looks.

I never noticed this until the screenshot (http://www.highdefdiscnews.com/scree...carface_45.png), but when he fires the gun, it looks like a 4th of july sparkler going off in front of his gun....

Also, there is a green tint on this compared to the dvd.

That site doesn't seem to allow direct linking, it just redirects to the front page.

Right now the Scarface review is at the top, but since it won't stay there forever: http://www.highdefdiscnews.com/?p=66372
