I'm definitely buying this. This and Prisoner of Azkaban are my two favorites.

I'll wait and buy it when it's (inevitably) bundled with Part Two in a single case.

Until then, it's Netflix queue bound.

VC-1, AVC, whatever works. Half-Blood Prince wasn't any worse off for having VC-1.

Granted, they've already switched audio codecs, but maybe they went with VC-1 for no other reason than not wanting to make it the odd one out in the Harry Potter series.

Anyone else notice how they started using AVC just in time for their first Spielberg title?

There's no guarantee they'll do this (they might, they might not). I thought about waiting as well, and then I realized you'll never get a "2 for 1" kind of deal; even if they bundle them, the price for buying separately (on sale) will NOT be twice as much.

I'm pretty sure the last movie's BD/DVD combo was $15.99 on release day with the price wars. I rather expect the same here and it will be a purchase for me ASAP.

My bet is that Warner authored this title well in advance (before the switch to AVC) in order to ramp up production to meet demand. Note that Half-Blood Prince had something similar happen when it came out with TrueHD after Warner had shifted to DTS-HD MA.

You distance it from the second half by several months, and count on marketing and people's general lack of self-control ( ) to drive sales.

I could've sworn Half-Blood Prince had DTS. Maybe I'm just getting it mixed up with Terminator: Salvation (my friend had both of those movies on bd).

Nope. TrueHD at 16/48. Still a damn fine disc, regardless of what haters say.

I'll hold out for the 3D versions of the last two. I wonder how they are going to market those?

Didn't they scrap the idea of doing 3D on Part 1?

They didn't have time for the theatrical release. There is talk of a 3D BD release of parts of the last two movies.
