It deserves its own thread

The Blu-ray collection will be boxed in new book-style premium packaging and will include a 40-page hard-cover book that explores the breadth of genres and themes in Kubrick's work. It will include the new release of A Clockwork Orange and the existing releases of Spartacus (licensed from Universal), Strangelove (licensed from Sony), 2001, The Shining, Full Metal Jacket: Deluxe Edition and Eyes Wide Shut. See individual entries for details.

No special features have been listed for Lolita or Barry Lyndon.

All that matters to me: are these actually NEW transfers, or just the same old typically Warner recycling?

The quote says that A Clockwork Orange is a new disc (which might but does not necessarily mean a new encode) while the rest are the previously-released versions.

Well, that destroys all hope that Spartacus would be getting a decent remastering.

What annoys me is that Barry Lyndon and Lolita won't be, at least for the time being, released outside of the set. I already have the previously released Kubricks (Minus Spartacus, for obvious quality reasons), and don't really feel like rebuying them.

Maybe they'll get separate releases in other territories, or as retailer exclusives. Since it's Warner there shouldn't be problems with region coding or anything.

That's what I'm banking on. There'll surely be separate releases somewhere around the world.

I wouldn't hold my breath, but Warner surprised everyone with Lethal Weapon

If they are going to make color changes like they did with the Lethal Weapons, then they might as well keep the old transfers.

If Spartacus and Dr. Strangelove are new encodes, I can't see Warner topping Sony on the latter. I do think they could improve on Spartacus even if it is the same source.

This is freaking outstanding!

But it's a shame they spelled "Lyndon" as "London" on the jacket. That's just plain shoddy; Kubrick deserves more respect.

What does "book style premium packaging" mean in the description? Is that similar to Deadwood and the Alien Anthology's packaging?

My boyfriend would love this as a gift. I'll have to force myself into dropping the cash for that Spartacus abomination.

Hmm, not my ideal set; fortunately there is the Criterion of Paths of Glory but I would love to have The Killing in there in place of Lolita, Eyes Wide, or Spartacus.

It's tempting, but I may hold out for something more complete and with a couple of new transfers depending on the price.

Didn't Warner just do the animated owl movie, which looks spectacular? If "A Clockwork Orange" gets done right, I can't wait to viddy that with my droogs.

With the amount of care they seem to be lavishing on packaging these days, we're lucky we didn't get "Barry London" and "Cockwork Orange".

I revere Kubrik, but after a quick review of the br pq thread,
I didn't see any of his flicks rated highly as br releases.

I would buy any reference quality br transfer of 2001, Dr.
Strangelove, or Clockwork Orange, if it is available.

I can rent it with nominal out of pocket. Has to
be stunning before I go out of pocket.

Long live Stanley!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It kind of makes me want to pick it up before the recall it just for the collectability. I mean it's not upside-down airplane on a stamp valuable, but still...

Huh?
2001 looks fantastic IMO.
Maybe it could look better in BD, but I doubt it would be very much.

I have the previous releases.
The only thing that interests me here is Barry London Lyndon.

I highly doubt that the London, er, variant will make it to shelves (looks like a ****-up with the mock-up to me), but if it does it'll be indicative of the utter contempt with which Warners are treating us.

I hold them in pretty high regard, so this lazy Kubrick rehashing is a bitter pill to swallow. YMMV.

I'd like to take a poll regarding who believes these will be new transfers and who doesn't. My opinion is they will just be reboxed and that's it.

Just checked Amazon for the Stanley Kubrick Limited Edition Collection BDs. I clicked on the image of the set's box on Amazon's Web page for it and saw that the spelling of Barry Lyndon had been corrected for the box in Amazon's photo of it. Note that Amazon's Product Details section says, "DTS Surround Sound," which seems to support the inference that the discs have will lack lossless audio.
