I may be late to the party with this news, but has anybody here gotten this version of FDtD: http://www.amazon.ca/Dusk-Till-Dawn-.../dp/B005OA6QYA

The two reviews that are for the "STEELBOOK" edition are both 5 star (the other reviews are for the previous Alliance version), and one of the reviews has this to say:

"Imagine my shock in actually opening an Alliance disk and discovering that:
1) It seem to be sporting a brand new transfer, deeper blacks and more saturated and natural colors compared to the previous bare bones edition.
2) There is a brand new menu with the following features (as per back cover) - Feature commentary with Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino; Outtakes; Featurette; Theatrical Trailer; Music Video; and more.....(sorry I have to load the disk in my player again to get the full list)"

I just placed an order. This definitely seems like the version to get, if all of this is true. Plus, the cover on the Steelbook looks awesome. It also comes with a DVD (not sure if the DVD is anamorphic). I will update you guys when it arrives!

This edition is listed at DVDCompare might be of interest to read what they say about it in the notes of said release.

Just picked up the UK disc, I'm looking forward to comparing it with the original Canuck version.

I just finished watching the Alliance Steelbook release of From Dusk Till Dawn and there is an audio dropout that lasts one second at 1:22:47 when Jacob is getting bitten by Sex Machine.

Oppo BDP93 with latest firmware (April 23, 2012)

Audio dropout also occurs at the same point on a Sony BDP-S270.

Can anyone else confirm this? Please list your BD player.

Thanks

Wow, I really disagree. IMO at least from those screen caps, it barely looks dvd quality.

Did you pose the same question on another site???

The proper setting for sharpness is always0.
Also my Oppo BDP-103D is region free.
That makes me awesome.

Are you using your AVR to decode the hd audio? If yes, try letting the blu ray player to decode the audio instead and see if the same audio dropout occurs. I had a similar situation with my copy of Transformers: Dark of the Moon in which there was a second of audio dropout in one scene near the climax. I later discovered that the dropout occured only when the audio is decoded by my AVR; when the blu ray player decodes the audio, no dropout at all in the same scene. I've read somewhere that older AVRs (more than 2 yrs old) are unable to completely handle the newer HD-DTS-MA soundtracks coming out nowadays.

Interesting read this thread. The same people who routinely slate other releases for differing even slightly from director intent suddenly praising a release of FDTD that looks like it was crayoned in primary colours. The Alliance release has its flaws (and also came out ages ago, something people seem to forget), but at least it's visually consistent with every other version of the film to come before (not to mention still photography from the set). Of course I could be wrong, and George Clooney may well have coated himself in marmalade before stepping in front of the camera each morning.

Forget the DVDs and production stills. The only question that matters to me is if it's consistent with the theatrical look.

Even from those compressed shots, I can tell it's pretty much the same as the UK release.

No bad thing.

I'll ignore what the post after yours said.

The German Studiocanal Edition ist the best overall package worldwide because it has all the extras (including Full Tilt Boogie) that other BDs are missing and some new Features produced for this Edition (for example a new Interview with George Clooney).

The Source for the Picture is the Miramax Master used also for the UK Blu Ray. Even the US Blu Ray has this master but encoding is not that great. Shame to Echo Bridge!

Comparison German Blu Ray vs. UK Blu Ray:
http://www.caps-a-holic.com/hd_vergl...ess=#vergleich

Comparison German Blu Ray vs. US Blu Ray:
http://www.caps-a-holic.com/hd_vergl...iID=14#auswahl

Look at Screenshot 10. Echo Bridge has serious artifacts. Encoding is bad.

Unfortunately the German Disc is Region B.
But for all viewers with a region Free Player it is the way to go imho.
Only the German Uncut Version. It is also a cut version out there.

You can disagree but it certainly looks better than DVD and clearly the best looking of the lot. Will buy the German BD when the price drops, like Aviator.

Blu-ray : 340

I'll try that. If it decodes properly through the Oppo, then I guess my receiver needs a firmware upgrade for this title.

Although the Sony player is not running through an AVR, it is hooked up directly to the tv via HDMI.

I'll let you know as soon as I get around to it.

Clearly? Two of us challenge that, so cannot be that clear cut.
