TLW was definitely less focused than the original, but it qualifies as entertaining in my book. It was certainly jumping the shark by time the T-Rex set foot on civilization, though. The runaway/ramming cargo ship was a pretty cool scene, but it all fell off a cliff for the movie beyond that.

I need your sweet love, Rosetta Stone girl!

I'm sorry if I missed it, but does this release mean a JP4 is imminent?

It's annoying how many big catalog releases are initially released in bundles or in a Collector's Edition with a bunch of clutter(in this case both!). Until the first movie is released individually I'll stick to my HDTV rip.

But in recent days, we've been hearing reports from retailers, both here in the States and internationally, that they're now being planned for release in October. A 10/20 street date has even been reported. We've waited to comment on this here at The Digital Bits until we'd heard back from our studio sources at Universal. We can now inform you that Universal here in the States HAS confirmed to us that the Jurassic Park Trilogy is being prepared for Blu-ray Disc release, probably late this year, in time for the holidays

Pre-production started a few times, but it never really got off the ground. That was some years back.

I think it was initially some news (AP?) story from at least several years ago. Then again, I don't believe everything I read..

IIRC, there was an attempt at a script, but the project was put off to concentrate on IJ4.

I remember first hearing news about a JP Blu-ray release well over a year ago (maybe two), and wasn't Speilberg quoted saying something like this release was going to be special? I believe some people here speculated that maybe that meant they would improve on some of the effects from at least the first movie (any CGI parts, or some of the audio, etc.). Any chance this might still be the case?

I'd love to see a JP reboot that follows Crichton's novel closer. Much more exciting, IMO.

Yeah, didn't Spielberg state the dino CGI had to be re-rendered with better texturing and then recomposited with the live-action camera negatives as it was even less than Blu-ray specs in 1993? If not, it would look pretty bad on Blu-ray.

Toy Story had to be amped a bit to at least theatrical 2k resolution for the 3D release since the CAPS files were less than 1080p at the time of completion.

Listen up, studios! Just say "NO" to DNR and EE!!

release them as single disc instead of forcing people to pay extra for movies they may not want...this is becoming all too common nowadays...Alien Anthology boxset comes out with 2 classics, 1 average and 1 below average movie and yet we are forced to pay for all 4...then a few months later they release them as single discs

I only want the first Jurassic Park on Blu-ray

Now, THIS is one change/re-edit/remake that I would LOVE to see. It should ideally be about six hours, so probably two or three parts like the last Harry Potter book-into-movie.

I doubt they would use a WC (writers cut) or reshoot since the deleted scenes were never shot, as is often the case.

Are you talking about the first movie or The Lost World? The Lost World is completely different than the book, but I don't recall the first movie being that much different from Crighton's novel. There were some cosmetic changes and a few things condensed, but I honestly don't think the book has enough content in it to stretch to a six-hour movie.

The first film could certainly benefit from a more faithful screenplay. While Spielberg made a good movie, he was not exactly true to the source. As it stands, about the first 1/3 of the book is represented fairly well by the first half of the movie, and then both diverge considerably. The entire second half of the book was driven by the sighting of the raptors on the boat headed for the mainland, and Grant's race to get back to the visitor center before it reached there. There was absolutely no mention of this in the movie. Also, the T-rex bought it from the tranquilizer as it was trying to get the kids on the other side of the waterfall (it does not show up at the end of the story and save the day)... a scene that was "lifted" for TLW. Finally, Malcom spent the last half of the book mortally wounded lying in the visitor center, with raptors slowly tearing through the building (the race here was to re-establish contact with the mainland to get Malcom help before he died). So, while there may not be enough to justify a six hour film, it was much more than simply condensing the material.

Granted, this is nothing compared to the hack job he did to TLW (never mind the fact that neither Hammond or Malcom lived past the first book). Literally, the only scene that was somewhat accurate to the novel was the T-rex attack on the trailers. Other than that, well...

Peace... Vader

IIRC, Spielberg switched the genders of the kids which made the girl into the nerdy computer kid who was useful and in the book she was just the cliched scared girl who screamed all the time and gave everyone away.

Really? I've never read JP the novel, but I did skim through The Lost World (JP2). The book has them meeting as did in the film, but over dinner instead. I believe Malcom then declares his return would be a rescue mission, also in the film version.

The TLW novel was written as a basis for Spielberg's sequel, and since Spielberg did not follow the first book, Crichton was forced to "ignore" that little detail in his sequel novel as well...
