They went back and re-did the audio so I guess it's worth buying if you have the older ADV Films DVD set. I recently bought the whole series on DVD (A&E release) so I am in no hurry to upgrade since I have a soundbar with subwoofer and not a surround system.

I have the Starburst collection with a 5.1 system and SVS 10" sub. Might wait for the price to drop a little though.

I bought the series on Blu Ray, and I do have the original ADV dvd set that was sold one disc at a time and then in packages of two. The reason I mention this is because this set was not compressed as much as the last A&E set, that has the worst video quality. To me, the set is worth it ( I'm a big fan ). I find the picture slightly better, color is real tight, no bleeding, but it is not equivalent to a typical new tv series on Blu Ray. The sound is very good on Blu Ray, and is the big upgrade here. For me, another reason I like the set is that it is compact in it's packaging, my DVD set is huge! Remember, I bought my DVD's in 1 to 2 disc box sets, and I remember paying $18 for a single disc, and $24 for the two disc sets ( but DVD was very new back then ). Ouch!!!!!!!!

I'm still on the fence with this. If I knew for sure they weren't EVER going to give it the TOS/TNG treatment, then I would buy this in a heartbeat. Like some others have said regarding the video: upscaled PAL is better than upscaled NTSC. I'm more of an audio guy anyway, so the DTSHDMA might be worth the price of admission...

Also, if the set was complete and included a solid transfer of Peacekeeper Wars, I would be more likely to spend the $100 asking price. I just would really HATE to buy it and then find out next year that they are redoing the FX in HD... y'know?

I did pay about $80 for the Atlantis Blu-ray set (5 seasons), but that is native 1080p.

I have the Starburst releases and am probably going to wait for this to drop a bit (or get a daily deal or something doubtful like that), but just having the series in a smaller footprint space on the shelf would be nice.

It's been forever since I watched the series, but if I remember correctly, the fourth season of those discs had horrendous edge enhancement in the Starburst versions (which oddly wasn't in the premiere episode for that season, but in the rest of the season). Is that fixed in these transfers?

The Peace Keeper Wars are owned by a different studio, so this was not included, and I haven't seen a release date for this one other than a German release, which is suppose to be aweful. I think in the end I paid $96 at Amazon, but the set should probably be priced at $75-$80. Apparantly, the source film masters have been lost, so I would not bet on a remaster.

Your memory is right. The picture quality took a shocking turn for the worse in season 4 episode 2. This was also the case on the original ADV DVDs.

I'd also like to know if this is still the case on the BDs.

The 35mm original negatives/footage is lost so it's unlikely in that they'll be doing this any time soon. You may wait a long time.

It doesn't include "The Peacekeeper Wars" (Lionsgate owns that title). The PAL upscale process they used improved the quality signficantly (you can compare the deleted scenes which ARE in lower rez to the improved upscaled image quality).

There are still interlace artifacts in evidence in a couple of scenes in a couple of episodes but, on the whole, it's a pleasing presentation.

I had bought the older Canadian ADV DVD box sets off ebay since they were the only game in town before the A&E set came out. Paid a lot for all 4 seasons, like $350

A number of episodes had artifacting, jaggies, and a few had sort of a gauzy, screen door effect in various scenes. Since these sets were NTSC, I wonder if these were the result of PAL conversions or inherent in the source material.

I hope these are mostly cleaned up in the BD's. The audio in the Canadian sets are DD 2.0. They matrixed very well with PLIIx, but having true 5.1 would be a nice upgrade.

I'll probably get the BD's but it's painful considering how much I paid for the older DVD's. I'm holding off for awhile because I'd prefer to see some screenshots before spending another $100

I'm still working my way through these Blu Rays, so far they look pretty good, no blocking or anything horrendous. I'll post back when I take a look at season 4. So far, I'm satisfied with my purchase, because this is the best copy of Farscape available. I have to agree with ss9001 on the original cost. This is a double dip for me, but I have not spent this much on any other TV series I own, that is including Star Trek TOS and Battlestar Galactica.

I've just begun viewing these discs on my Oppo BDP-93. Have any other owners noticed audio clicks/pops at any point during the episodes? There's a very noticeable click in the rear left channel at 45:05 into the 3rd episode ('Exodus From Genesis') as the Marauder is leaving Moya. And I believe I've noticed one or two smaller clicks either in that same episode or in the 2nd episode ("I, E.T."). Hopefully this won't continue through the rest of the episodes.

No, I never noticed this when I watched. I watched the series on my Panasonic 110 & Oppo 83, kinda went back and fourth between the players.

I checked the disc on my other system (with a Panasonic DMP-BD755 player) and found the same audio defects at the same point. It's 100% reproducible. So likely not a player or firmware issue.

I suppose it could be a bad disc. But if so then I would have expected to also see some sort of video artifacting, or at least some slight variation in the glitching from play to play. But there's none of that. Just an audio-only defect that is 100% reproducible, and which manifests itself 100% consistently across multiple BD player vendors.

Have you gotten into Season 4 on the Blu-Rays yet? If so any comment on whether it suffers the same edge enhancement issues as the previous DVDs?

Yes, I finished the set, including my Peackeeper wars on DVD. I thought season four looked pretty good. The big contrast was when I went from the season 4 blu rays to Peacekeeper Wars DVD, holy **** the DVD looked bad in comparison!!! After seeing this, my final vertict was the set was worth me buying. Is it up to blu ray standards? The answer is no. Is the set a decent improvement over the poor dvd copies? The answer is yes. The resolution is not a huge improvement, but the edge enhancement and blocking is gone. The color is also better as well. I hope this helps.

After getting "Inland Empire" I really can't abide getting BDs that merely have rescaled SD Video...

The proper setting for sharpness is always0.
Also my Oppo BDP-103D is region free.
That makes me awesome.

And then, lo and behold, they'll have magically found the original film elements for yet another re-release...

I'll give at least the first season a rental as I've never seen the series, but always wanted to. Now all I have to do is find a place that is renting the Blu-ray version.

If I really enjoy it, I'll hold off until it doesn't look like a proper version from the original elements will be in the offing.

Listen up, studios! Just say "NO" to DNR and EE!!

Just FYI, Farscape is the Gold box deal today. It's currently the #1 BD on Amazon.

Just picked it up at Fry's and asked them to price match Amazon. This is a great price for 4 Seasons of Sci-Fi Bliss.

Yup!
As soon as I got the email, I sprung for it. Even tho I have the ADV discs, 68 bucks was too hard to pass up

I was waiting for a super-sale like this and amazon finally obliged
If a lot of the jaggies & gauze/screendoor effect is cleared up, it'll be worth the double dip. I don't know what artifact causes it but some scenes in certain DVD episodes looked like they were shot thru a fine wire screen.

The DTS Master Audio was enough for me.

I watched the first five episodes on my HD33 last night. Looks vastly superior to the DVD's IMO. The DVD's were plagued with compression artifacts and the audio was mediocre at best. The picture on the Blu-rays is much sharper with better color and has no compression issues. The DTS-MA is a pretty big improvement also.

I've watched 2 episodes today after receiving my set this afternoon. I'm generally pleased with the PQ for upscaled PAL. Iv'e seen no compression issues which is great but there is a bit of banding in some scenes. It's still an improvement over the DVD's but keep your expectations reserved. The audio however steals the show!! FANTASTIC!!! Excellent discreet surround usage & the LFE is superb for a TV show. As many others have said, the jump to DTS-MA 5.1 audio makes this set worthwhile to fans. At $68 that came to $17 per season, VERY MUCH WORTH IT!!!

Yes, it can be heard on my Oppo 93 as well. I dunno if I would have noticed it on my own, it's a small glitch but it's def there.

Slightly off topic but I figure you folks will know. I'm a pretty big sci-fi fan but never got into Farscape. I just watched the first couple of episodes on Netflix. How far in must I go before the show really hits its stride?
