It's a great movie. A bit different (not in a bad way) from the Spider-Man/Batman/X-Men etc. comic movies, but I think it's due to the character and setting. I'll be picking it up myself.

Ties in very well with Iron Man 2's "secret scene" and the Avengers movie.

I have never failed. I just found 10,000 ways that won't work.

I can't wait and will pick up the 3D version. I was able to see Captain America over the weekend and it was fantastic. Looking forward to the Avengers.

I love how these movies are being made to match the comics more, and taking part in a bigger, connected universe (the Avengers) rather than a stand-alone approach.

The only previous mention I remember of outside Marvel characters before these recent movies was in Spider-Man 2 when J.J. said the name "Dr. Strange" was already taken.

Unfortunately it's harder when the movies are produced/distributed by different studios, but an acknowledgement of the wider Marvel-verse is a nice touch.

I have never failed. I just found 10,000 ways that won't work.

I agree its going to be great. Wasn't the fantastic 4 part of the avengers also? I remember reading they could be making a reboot too.

Like most comics that are as old as some of these characters, there are many dimensions, universes, worlds, and reboots just within each comic book line, so the F4 or members of F4 were probably part of the Avengers at some point. However, I think the traditional Avengers model is Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Hank Pym, and Wasp. Then there's Nick Fury (white and black flavors), that hot russian chick, etc. other supporting characters of the Avengers plotlines. I know Wolverine has also made many appearances throughout the decades. I thought they were going to make a Hank Pym (Ant-Man) movie, but maybe not.

I'm just happy that these characters are finally getting fleshed out in faithful adaptations. I have bones to pick with each one so far, but not many.

Did you stay until the end to see the Avengers trailer? We just haven't had time to see it yet, but I'm really looking forward to it!

Strongly suggest a rent on this for those who have not seen it. Very corny movie IMO. I might give the blu a rent to check out the audio which should be great, but that is about the only interest I have since the movie was pretty lame IMO.

Oh, way to dampen the mood there, Todd.

Anyway, it'll be tough to get the F4 with the Avengers since they used the same actor for Capt. American and The Human Torch.

You see me reaching for my f****** wallet?!?

That was the impression the trailers gave me, as well as opinions of those who saw it that share movie tastes with me.

Sorry man! Not trying to be a downer, just giving my honest thoughts/opinion. On a positive note, Natalie Portman looks VERY good in the movie!

I was surprised how corny it was. It felt like an 80s movie to me. It had a Flash Gordan (which I like) gone wrong type vibe if that makes any sense. My friend who I went with liked it even less than me!

Definite rent first IMO Stephen!

Thanks for the rental tip, I was gonna pick this up blind because it looked like a great action/super hero flick and the reviews were strong, but if some are saying it's goofy/corny I guess it wouldn't hurt to sample it before purchasing just in case. Plus, what's with the friggin' beard? I admit I didn't read a lot of Thor as a youngster but I know he didn't sport a beard, lol!

My Setup | Night

Latest Blu-Rays Bought: Brubaker, Star Trek Into Darkness, World War Z, Iron Man 3, Halloween 35th, This is The End, The Conjuring, The World's End, You're Next, Thor 2, Gravity, Noah

Ultimate Thor did. I haven't read any of it, but I believe that's what this Thor's look is based on. The armor is similar to Ultimate Thor too, apart from the helm and cape which is more "traditional" Thor.

I have never failed. I just found 10,000 ways that won't work.

Toe is correct, it does have a very campy vibe to it, particularly in the Earth scenes, which are played mostly for humor.

The scenes on Asgard are spectacular and I thought the SFX were fantastic -- even better in 3D.

It really feels like two movies because of the shift in tone between the Asgard and Earth-bound scenes, but it's worth seeing.

Which is one of the biggest problems in movies that aren't comedies (and some movies that are supposed to be comedies for that matter).

Comic relief in action films has gotten so blatantly stupid that just a few scenes can kill a movie for me.

I felt the comic relief scenes in Thor were well thought out, well placed, well timed, and rather witty. It felt realistic to the story, not campy. Most of what made if feel cheesy was that Thor exhibited the behavior of a king from a long gone era. Contrasted against the modern day angst and attitudes of the mere mortals around him, it seems out of place... but that's what the story is about. Thor is "out of place", banished to Earth from Asgard...

I'm not a huge Thor buff, but from my knowledge of him it seemed he was portrayed well. One of my friends is a huge Thornerd and he liked it, but wished that they had done more in Asgard and less on Earth. There's no shortage of tales to be told from Asgard, that's for sure, but it was probably necessary to have much of the events happen on Earth in order to lead into the Avengers movie.

Thor 2 has been greenlit, so I imagine we'll see something more for Thor purists in the next film.

Marvel Comics and I go back... way back to the early 60's. So I have a pretty decent knowledge of the whole Thor mythos (Lee/Kirby through the end of the Buscema era) at least through the late 70's when I mostly lost interest in comics in general. In the last 10 years I've picked up some of the stuff Marvel's released more recently including the Ultimates stuff through various graphic novel compilations.

IMO, the Thor movie was a pleasant surprise. It's not Nolan/Dark Knight serious or as deep and it doesn't reach the perfect balance of camp goodness of Reeve's first two Superman flicks, but it was an entertaining 2 hours. Arguably, there's some comparisons to the Clash Of The Titans remake but imo, Thor is a vastly superior movie. The actor who plays Loki steals the film and genuinely makes the role more than a one dimensional cardboard cut-out villain. He reminds me a bit physically of a young David Bowie in some scenes.

The only thing I thought hurt the film was a lot of time filler regarding the on-Earth scenes 'til the big battle at the end.

It's certainly better than Iron Man 2 which imo, was a huge letdown.

I feeeel you! Though it didn't kill the movies for me (mainly cuz of the visuals and audio), the transformers movies are a prime example. The attempts at humor were pretty bad in my opinion
