Good thing you don't buy limited-edition soundtrack albums. Screen Archives and countless other labels have produced some great 3000-copy CDs that have sold out in hours, never mind days. Comparatively speaking FRIGHT NIGHT was available for an eternity!

exactly ..

Oddball: Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?

It seems rather clear that there is a significant fan base that extends much further than this arbitrary 3,000 units limited run can adequately accommodate.

The main issue here is there no equivalent recourse nor clear future alternative for those who were unaware of in time or unable to take advantage of this limited run.

What could be done is provide a reissue without say, the original artwork and omit the isolated soundtrack to distinguish the two releases; which would retain the vaunted and perceived inflated value of the original release whilst appeasing the evidently larger fan base.

I have never seen the film except for seeing the poster art in various venues over the years but with all the raised awareness due to the remake and high praise of the original my curiosity has been peeked. Alas this miscalculated limited edition run only reduces the likelihood of me ever getting around to seeing it in an evidently nice HD presentation.

This boutique approach seems rather shortsighted at least for this particular release in comparison for some of their other offerings where hedging their bets maybe the best approach.

Best Regards
KvE

The original is a real fun 80's romp. It never takes itself seriously just like Back To The Future... it's a comedy/horror or horredy. Roddy MacDowall was a hoot as late night cable access schlock-jock Peter Vincent. The character was a small homage to Elvira: Mistress of the Dark and similar over-the-top horror show hosts.

I can wait for the inevitable double dip.

Listen up, studios! Just say "NO" to DNR and EE!!

I think if the remake had been a hit it would be more likely to her re-released.

There is nothing obscene about profits. They produced the movie. They took the risk. They deserve to make whatever money the market is willing to bear.

You got that right! What the hell is an "obscene" profit (as opposed to an "unobscene" one) supposed to be, anyway? And who defines it?

Guys: let's move on from the discussion of what's appropriate selling price/profit for this title.....and get back to discussing the blu ray of this title.

Let the free market system determine the price and let's move on....

Also, please do not post for sale, want ad or trade posts outside of the classified forum. thanks

The character was more of a salute to Peter Cushing and Vincent Price.

Just remember, a studio the size of Sony would likely needed to have sold 8000 to 10,000 units to break even on a release like Fright Night. The studios hate carrying inventory of items with low ROI.

From them no. From Image without the isolated score and booklet, without a doubt.

I can see it getting a US release again but I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you as it won't happen any time soon. It is more likely to see a release outside North America, even by Sony themselves, before the the US gets another shot.

Even if that happens, it'd likely be years from now, not months. Sony gave them a license for a certain number of copies and it likely involves a certain amount of time in terms of exclusivity as well.

The potential for an import release is probably far greater in the forseeable future than Image dumping it out as a $10 bargain title, but what does it tell you Sony opted not to bother in the first place? If they didn't care 6-12 months ago, when the remake was imminent, why would they care now -- when the remake has come and gone and was a massive flop? What's changed? You have to look at it from their perspective. It's not as if the 3000 copies sold out in 24 hours, so why would you think they'd release it overseas now when the "awareness" in the title is almost certainly less than it was when the remake was being released.

Twilight Time's license was almost certainly limited to a specific number of copies (likely the 3000 already sold) and some period of exclusivity in the U.S. (2-3 years at the most).

.....not so....I'm on a U.K. forum and there's frustrated folks there. Word that this one has been released and sold out is arriving simultaneously to many folks, here, there, and everywhere. I wonder how many of the meager 3000 copies left Estados Unidos? I know of copies that went to Sweden and the U.K.

As beautiful as this disc is, it's a crying shame that so few folks will have the opportunity to get one.

In real life I am Dot Mongur champion of the International Pacman Federation. I don't play the game, I operate it.....no dot is safe from me....

But at least the packaging would be pretty.

Price was the one actually. He and McDowall were longtime friends. And I'm with those that have a bad taste about this trumped up LE. I'm perfectly fine with my WS LD and DVD until the film gets a proper Blu-ray.
