Yeah but that was an isolated situation when Obi-wan jumped up on the platform after being kicked off, otherwise CGI wasn't bashed over our heads during the actual saber play. Agree about Park's ability to sell the action, kudos to Mcgregor as well looking at the TPM extras, he put some serious work into making himself look like a credible saber fighter/swordsman.

Too many systems and games....not enough time or money!

For me it depends on what they are and the size. They could either be a subtle compliment to my home theater decor, something for my kids rooms or simply a collectible like the 1000's of trading cards I've saved.

+1
Whatever cgi was used in the actual duel is well hidden because I find NOTHING here to complain about, again other than it's brief duration.

I wouldn't have minded Anakin giving his saber to Padme or putting it somewhere that Kenobi would later find it but I also like the fact that Luk inherits the saber that killed so many jedi and the kids, etc. It adds a unspoken ominous history to it that Luke is blind to.

For those who have seen this, do you have comments about the difference in audio? I'm considering BD for the improvement in sound, and I am having a hard time finding comments on any audio differences.

Does anyone know if there is anything in the extras about this scene that was cut/changed?

Also, it was noticed in the illustrated screenplay, there are storyboard drawings of Darth Maul fighting Obi-Wan in the desert, so maybe originaly both Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan were supposed to fight him? or Lucas wasn't sure who would fight who? Interesting, and we just thought that was a promotional picture in Vanity Fair. We'll keep working on that one. Here's a brief update as well, courtesy of Michael:

In the first few drafts of the screenplay it was OBI-WAN who went into the Tatooine marketplace, not QUI-GON, as he hadn't been introduced into the story yet (as he first appeared on Coruscant). So in that sith encounter in the desert it was OBI-WAN who fought Maul. But that still does not explain why they made storyboards. They may have just made rough ones in very early production for Lucas so he could see what the sequence would look like.

So who's going to be the first to say the AC-3 track on the TPM laserdisc sounds better than the BluRay???

From the Ep I DVD bonus stuff - a few more CG tweaks to Park did occur. One I remember - the backflip from one catwalk to another (Obi/QGJ jumping across right after - a prominent moment in the TPM trailer) had his legs digitally altered to have him perfectly nail the wire-assisted landing on screen.

Then again, if you never knew there was CG in that shot - you may never have known.

Basically, the TPM duel CG stunt stuff was mainly very subtle touchups. By Ep II, it got more obvious when digital manipulation was used.

Yes, the photo behind the box set is what I was talking about. Again, I guessing the photos will be individual and I don't know the size. I'm more interested in this than a t-shirt because I would divide them among my kids. Half a t-shirt just doesn't look as good.

That's a publicity photo taken on-set by Annie Leibovitz for Vanity Fair magazine. It's not a cut scene.

Personally I think Obi-wan should have been the one to 'discover' Anakin, be the one to believe in him when others wouldn't. Would have given their ROTS duel an adder layer of depth, imo.

Yeah that's what I'm saying...the TPM duel's usage of CGI was subtle enough as to not be distracting or barely noticeable. To the point that I barely notice its usage.

Perhaps the best way to color the sabers would be to take into account the general interpretations of what the various colors represent.
IIRC, blue = thoughtfulness, red = fire or intensity or passion, green = serenity, yellow = happy without a care, orange = unpredictability or danger.

Yeah. Found it by chance one day a couple years ago. I don't even remember what site I was on. Could have been here for all I know but there was a banner ad that had it on there. I lol'd at first but I really needed a new wallet at the time so I said "what the hell" and got it.

This might be the site but a quick Google search came up with extras.

http://www.bmfwallets.com/

Sorry to go OT, but this is Sam Jackson's wallet in Pulp Fiction and he was in Star Wars so it's sort of relevant.
