Yes. However, the DVD format can resolve the entire resolution and color spectrum of the masters and carry them in (superior) component video, while the LD format can do neither. Same masters, but LD can't quite fully reproduce them.

I don't feel special...

After all that, I had to go into work so I won't be able to watch them until tonight.

BTW for those interested, I haven't opened the lithos but the package is about 12" x 7", something like that. Assuming it's what's on the cover of the package (see Target weekly ad) they're basically paintings. One I think will compliment my HT decor. The rest my kids can have. It's all good.

And yes, a lot more Blu-Rays than lithos for me as well.

Yea, I was hoping for a bigger box as well..I picked it up at first and double checked to make sure it was the "WHOLE" saga. The LOTR boxed set is only 3 movies (OK...extended version but still, same amount of movie), and is much bigger/nicer.

Anyways, I can't wait to watch them! Unfortunately it's a busy weekend...maybe I can get through Ep I before Monday.

At least he didn't say, "But why are you buying it on Blurry way?" "DVD is so much better".

Amazon is making huge efforts to have most customer pre orders arrive today on the release day to keep us from going to brick and morter on future pre orders! Guess what mine just showed up and I did not request faster shipping or anything. $79.99 total to my door on the day it was released to public. I have to say first time they have done this ona new release. used to get it days after. Amazon is getting this figured out. I will continue to pre order with Amazon.

Picked up the set and the lithos.

I didn't even have to walk to the electronics section. They had the lithos on a shelf 'next' to the box sets right at the register. It is free, but you have to take it with you separately to the register.

There were A LOT more Blurays than Lithos.

Thanks for the tips, it got me off the computer and out the door to Target by 8:15. I was the only one at the registers. It wasn't a doorbuster, and the display at the front had just been set up. They had 6 sets in a box display, and except for Yoda on the side, it looked like another clearance rack. They had 4 litho sets, and no wording to draw attention to them. Most of the display was filled with OT and PT sets. Maybe they had a big display in the back of the store, I didn't go back there.

My blu-ray is being delivered today. Regardless of some dire outlook and opinions, I am still very excited.

Hope Lucas isn't reading these reviews... the originals look "soft, grainy, and noisy"? Well, look for the oversharpened and completely grain-scrubbed 3D release in 2015

Weird, I pre-ordered the day it was announced and got notification last week I'd receive it on the 26th, I had to go in and change my shipping type to get it to show a delivery date of today (no biggie as I have prime right now).

Audio is just amazing. If one really wanted to demonstrate the difference between compressed ( the DVDs) and uncompressed, these are the blu rays to show it. Even New Hope,.. what a difference.
I know many people say the difference is 'subtle'. I just don't know how one can compare these to the DVDs and say it's subtle

I'm at work and don't have the set in front of me. I'll check tonight if the domestic version has the logo and if the THX fanfare is at the end of any of the films....I'm curious on this one.

It's a new mix though isn't it? That probably has more to do with it then lossy/lossless...

So i'm sitting here looking at the cover trying to figure out whats 'odd' about it.
then it hits me: The proprtions of little Vader are off. His head is smaller than it should be for his age/height. Damn you, Lucas. Now Vader has shrunken head syndrome!!

Parially. But only only partially. The sound in general is just so much more open.

Nice for you. For me, I see they've used FedEx Smartpost which means I'll see it sometime in October. Even though I "qualified for release-date delivery."

Not sure about their effort. My pre-order shipped today, estimated delivery Sept 21st. So no release delivery for me with free shipping. I don't mind, but as usual new a new release wasn't shipped til release day using the free shipping option.
