Read a few reviews that look to be very positive and consistant. Original trilogy is getting rave reviews, and the prequels seem to be very good, but not as eye popping as the the originals. I ordered my $79.99 copy and used my Amazon points to get $28 off. I figured for $52 I can't go wrong. $8.66 a movie. I'm not a hard core Star Wars fanatic, so the changes don't bother me. I grew up with Star wars, but actually was more of a "Close Encounters" fan. Of course with that Blu-ray, they got it right.

No, but it is coming soon. Clone Wars season 3 comes out on October 18, which is back to a normal Tuesday release schedule. But for LEGO geek, LEGO Star Wars: The Padawan Menace Blu-ray comes out this Friday coinciding with the Saga BD release.

Bazinga!

Which is odd considering Episode II and III have the best PQ of the lot of them.... especially III.

I have been holding off watching all of the Clone Wars until this SW Blu-ray set came out, so by the time I'm finished with Season 2 that will probably be around the time when Season 3 comes out

Order of watching for me is:

Episode I, II, CW movie, CW S1, CW S2, CW S3, Episode III, IV, V, VI

Will be cool to watch it all in chronological order for the first time.

you should watch the tartakovsky clone wars from 2003, they're a little hard to find but are vastly superior to the cg series as they were made when revenge of the sith was in production and seem to be geared to more mature fans, sadly i dont think those will ever get on bluray

He might be thinking of the Alien Quadrilogy UK DVD which did have a "digistack" (I would sall it a "digibook", but apparently that's already taken).

Also the newst pressings of the Blu-ray Anthology are a multi-disc amray case wtih a slipcover, which I think is much better than the original foldout.

So they don't look like the mushy, undetailed, video game-esque messes I've seen in screenshots and originally in the cinema?

While I would agree with you regarding Episode II to a certain extent, Episode III actually looks spectacular on Blu. It's easily Tier 1 and maybe even approaching Tier 0.

I've been going back and forth about buying the saga. I know it's not
reference quality, but it's, from the majority of reports, pretty damn good.

I will do my best to ignore the flaws in the transfers. but Star Wars was a huge breakthrough, it changed cinema forever. It has become as thoughouly ingrained into our social fabric as facebook or the Beatles. Heck the best Super Bowl commercial this year was the kid playing Darth.

So since is the best home viewing version we are likely to be able to get,
and before Lucas makes any more changes to the OT (turning Darth into
a lesbian in next release), I'm all in for this one.

Since Darth Vader is mostly machine than human, maybe that's enough excuse for Lucas to do it because of the empire's computer glitch. When Luke cuts off Darth's hand, you'll hear screaming in high voice, no... my beautiful hand.

Blu-ray.com review:

Movie: 4.0
Video: 4.0
Audio: 5.0
Extras: 4.5

Overall 5

Well that makes sense.

yeah i have my doubts as well... first off it's as is Lucas ignores they exist in favor of the inferior CG series and second it's likely they were produced in SD

i'm going to end up having to overpay for out of print DVDs of the series because i didn't get them at the time

Is the best unenhanced Ep. 4-6 be the 2006 DVD Limited Edition that included the Special Edition and original theatrical edition?

I just played the DVDs that I haven't watched in several years. The movie case described the original TE as 4:3 letterbox with 2.35:1 ratio. When played on PS3, it's in a smaller box. The picture quality is very grainy. If I set it to be played in Full Screen, the 4:3 widescreen gets stretched sideways.

I still have the receipts when I bought them from Circuit City on sale for $15 each. Even came with reprint of the original movie poster art. The Blu-ray trilogy is listed as $40 at Amazon.

Don't want to get too far off topic, but yes legally those are the best you are going to get aside from the LD which they were struck from.

Not sure what was meant by your last statement though are you making a statement or was that a question cut off?

From what I have read there are no trailers. There could be Easter eggs however as I haven't seen anything posted on those.

My last comment about still having the receipt from the DVD is just a comment because the Blu-ray original trilogy is cheaper than the DVDs on the release week.

Yeah times have changed a bit . Btw I am excited to see the other major reviews come out just to see what others think and how they review the set. It will be interesting to see how differently everyone sees/hears it.

Australia's release day is tomorrow. I was given the offer to drive to the other side of the city to get copy tonight, but could not be bothered driving for an hour each way, so will pick this up tomorrow morning.

Hmm, I'm torn over whether I prefer the look of the US packaging you guys are getting with the nice artwork in the book style, or our less pretty but also less scratch/fingerprint-prone EU release with trays for each disc. Sadly having the trays means we lose all the artwork. But I really don't like that disc-inserted-into-card thing.

I was all set to get the US version at 12:01am. However, after much contemplation and seeing how cool the UK packaging is I ordered that version instead. I'll just have to suck it up and wait a bit longer now. Hopefully the force is strong with the mail system.
