Boy I dunno Waboman, the UK version appears way over-saturated, and the US is washed-out! Omigosh! Awful! Can't even get the packaging right!

Yes, clearly the UK packaging has DNR and contrast boosting.

Episode I looks like crap, amateur hour filtering. And that close-up of Vader's helmet in the Blu-ray.com screenshots... can you say sharpening?

I can't believe the shoddiness of this set.

Please also remember our reviewers (as well as moderators) are unpaid volunteers. As you can imagine the amount of time needed to properly review the complete boxset is huge. Personal commitments like work and family don't always allow us to work off a deadline. I'm sure Ralph will post it when he's had time to do it justice.

I just played the DVDs that I haven't watched in several years. The movie case described the original TE as 4:3 letterbox with 2.35:1 ratio. When played on PS3, it's in a smaller box. The picture quality is very grainy. If I set it to be played in Full Screen, the 4:3 widescreen gets stretched sideways.

I still have the receipts when I bought them from Circuit City on sale for $15 each. Even came with reprint of the original movie poster art. The Blu-ray trilogy is listed as $40 at Amazon.

Those come from old NTSC masters used for laserdisc and VHS that were created from a telecine performed almost 20 years ago. The native ratio is 4:3 (like an old tube television set), with letterbox bars on the top and bottom of the 4:3 image. You will have to use your HDTV zoom the image to view the correct proportions on your display. Look for a display setting most likely called....."zoom".

Well prioritized. While anxious of his thoughts I'd much prefer the time taken for a quality assessment.

I spoke with Ralph and he confirmed that he isn't anticipating receiving his review copies till Friday, he'll then need sometime to watch and put together his review. There isn't a projection as to when AVS will have their review available.

Sounds like there are different groups in change of what gets sent when.

Based on Ralph's comment, reviewers may be getting the disks from different sources, with different instructions.

Please note my comments in the two posts above have been changed to correctly reflect the source, which is 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment.

Will be cool to watch it all in chronological order for the first time.

See the poster on the back wall of the HT?

Greetings,

Just be clear, it isn't that Fox sends them out on street date, but that we generally don't receive them until street date or (in some cases) a day or two before.

This is a very highly anticipated release. I have been told that I am on the list but quite frankly one never knows. I will advise once I have it in hand.

Regards,

What is up with US packaging designers on using digibook style? More basic disc case design is more practical to use.

I found an easy way to scratch Blu-ray disc hardcoating. Rub the disc on the digibook paper surface. With the way the disc stored in the digibook, I have pull the disc out of the digibook which rubs the disc surface against the paper.

Thanks for the information Ralph.

As always I look forward to your reviews!

My box set should be arriving on Friday (or before if I'm lucky!) and I plan on ripping it open that night and having fun with my wife and son.

Personally I love the US version cardboard/book style packaging, and prefer it over the EU version. I've got the Alien Anthology set from last year and its pretty much the same exact thing. I've had no issues with it at all, including no issues with the discs getting scratched.

I am really, really, really looking forward to Friday. Hoping Amazon doesn't drop the ball on my release day delivery order.
