I know it's Echo Bridge, but I love this movie, so I'm holding a vague hope it might at least be better than the awful HDnet broadcast.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Very high up on my "guilty pleasure" list. I'm looking forward to this, as well, and hoping for something decent from Echo Bridge.

I did notice this morning that Amazon has changed the release date to Nov. 15th from the 1st. I'll check Wallyworld tomorrow just in case.

I saw this in the theater when it came out. I remember liking it, but I don't remember much about it and I haven't seen it since. It will be interesting to re-watch it and see how it has stood the test of time.

My perpetual home theater build -

I'm beginning to soften my stance on Echo Bridge.

The proper setting for sharpness is always0.
Also my Oppo BDP-103D is region free.
That makes me awesome.

Why? Hasn't all their releases so far been sub par and inferior to bargain basement import versions?

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Poo, I was really hoping Lionsgate would be handling this one. The OAR is 2:35:1, so I am doubly terrified. Any chance somebody has the overseas rights?

This doesn't bode well:

Hopefully that 1.78:1 is an error.

Apparently some Echo Bridge BDs that have been advertised as 1:78:1 are actually 2:35:1 (Twin Dragons was a given example), so maybe not all is lost.

I was sent this Blu-ray to review for Dread Central, so I've seen it.

It doesn't look all that great, to be honest. The image isn't clean, nor is it very detailed. It's a DVD upscale, more or less. It's better than the old Dimension DVD, however, and it's anamorphic to boot so I guess that's a plus.

This flick IS NOT cropped at 1.78:1, despite what the back of the box claims. 2.35:1 (or 2.39? - I'm not sure entirely) all the way.

Heck, I'm in. Just to upgrade to anamorphic is worth it to me assuming I can find it for ~$10. What's the audio? The DVD only had "Digital Stereo", so again, Echo Bridge doesn't have to reach high to surpass it. Still a darn shame Lionsgate didn't take this one.

Why didn't Lionsgate just buy every Miramax movie???

I'll be it's identical to the recent HDnet broadcast, which was very bad. Still yeah, if it has 5.1 audio at least I may pick it up, better than what we currently have.

I can understand not wanting to mess with the sequels, but From Dusk Till Dawn is a proven cult classic with sales to match. The Prophecy less so, but it's obviously got a good following. I'm also surprised they didn't take Halloween H20, but who knows what their thinking is. I can't complain about Lionsgate too much - in the last week I've picked up solid releases of both Copland and Life Is Beautiful for next to nothing, both of which retained all of their DVD special features, and both of which offered sizable AV upgrades over their DVD counterparts.

I don't believe companies like Lionsgate and Echo Bridge get to choose which films they get to distribute individually. I suspect Miramax offers a "package" of titles and distributors either take it or not. No cherry-picking.

Disc was delivered yesterday, and I watched it last night. It was not pretty.

Gregory Widen fashioned a snappy little theological thriller that succeeds on the strength of the story and the above average cast. The Prophecy is one of those rare "B" movies that exceeds its own limitations. Unfortunately, Miramax and Echo Bridge are have made their limitations far too obvious.

The Blu-ray edition of The Prophecy is about as cheap an effort as one will find. For those that complain about discs such as Jurassic Park or Star Wars using older transfers, take a look at The Prophecy to see just how bad it could be. Not only is this not a new transfer, it has every appearance of being a standard definition transfer that has been given an AVC encode and slapped on a Blu-ray disc. Resolution is barely above DVD, if at all. The image lacks any of the extended dynamic range a true HD transfer can offer. Here we get pretty much the same dull, muddy image from the DVD. The only improvement I can see is less video noise due to the higher bit rate AVC compared to the low bit rate MPEG on the DVD.

The audio is encoded as DTS-HD MA 5.1, and is not bad. Overall level is very low, you will have to crank the volume rather more than usual, but there is acceptible clarity and detail.

This disc is a step up from the non-anamorphic DVD from years ago, albeit a small step up. Most places are selling for under $14. For that price, it is worth replacing the DVD, but only just.

Huge disappointment for a fan of this film.

Yep, the lossless and anamorphic make it worth $5-$10, just blows major chunks. Echo Bridge should be destroyed.
