A dazzling Herzogian approach to the "world's first art gallery"....Chauvet Cave in southern France.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chauvet_cave

Herzog was highly restricted in how and what he could show by the French govt.
Due to the fragility of the site, access is extremely restricted.

This release comes on a dual-layered disk with 3D and 2D blu-ray presentations.
Since I don't have the necessary hardware, I can't speak to the quality of the 3D video.
While the 2D BD isn't as sharp as I had hoped, little can be done due to the < state of the art equipment used to record the images.

No matter...check this disk out and if you do, do NOT skip the fantastic (and only) Extra: Ode to the Dawn of Man.
It shows the recording of the hauntingly fantastic score by Dutch cellist Ernst Reijseger.
It nearly moved the wife and I to tears.
Hopefully, this receives an Oscar nomination, more folks need to experience this music.
Ordered the CD, something I rarely do.

Oinkster,

I found the tracks to this film on Grooveshark if anyone is interesting in taking a listen.

And of course YouTube is loaded with several trailers for this film.

Thank you.

I have only a few soundtracks on disk (not sure why).
LOTR, Amadeus, and a few others.
But this one has earned a place alongside the others.

Finally caught up to this tonight - the menu music is playing as I type. Found myself wondering about the soundtrack - Herzog likes his music, but not always appropriate to my tastes, but this was spot on.

Anyhow, off to view the dawn of man as it were smile.gif

Eve: I thought I was through getting involved with men who were trouble. Falling in love on a look. I can't look at you.

Mickey: You have perfection about you. Your eyes have music. Your heart's the best part of your body. And when you move, every man, woman and child is forced to watch.

Could not agree more....it's just fantastic by any measure.

BTW, be sure to check out the Bonus Section.
The guy does a live performance that is soul-piercing, to say the least.
BTW, the wife got misty-eyed while listening to it....

I bought this when I first got my 3D projector and haven't got around to watching it.

I haven't watched a 3D movie in a while so maybe I'll give it a spin soon.

Another documentary, filmed in 3-D, that comes highly recommended from a source I trust. Directed by Wim Wenders, and half off in the B&N criterion sale:

Cave of Forgotten Dreams is definitely worth seeing in 3D.
I can't say the same for Pina unless you are a big fan of modern dance.

3D is definitely the way to watch Cave of Forgotten Dreams; I saw it in a theater specifically because I didn't have a 3D projector. Some of the camcorder footage has an eye-wrenchingly terrible upconversion, but the fully set-up 3D shots of the paintings are great and show off just how extremely not-flat they are.
