for me this was the best new Tv show of this year.

the only serie that i enjoy equal as much is Breaking Bad. but this serie is unbelievble good.

i waited so long for a series like this. were everything can happen.

i still havent read the books on purpose. but man this serie rocks. for people who have not watched it yet. get this box and be amazed!

and season 2 cant come soon enough as well. it really annoys me that i have to wait till april when season 2 starts. April hurry up!!!

I only started Breaking bad this year so it ranks above this for me, but this was amazing.

Having just finished watching the first season - 1080i + 5.1 rips direct from DVR - I can imagine that the Blu-ray would look and sound magnificent.

If you've read the books, specifically Game of Thrones, some of the changes will eat at you, but those changes are overall eclipsed by the excellent casting. Some of the scenes not from the book seem to be there only as an excuse to show explicit sexual scenarios that serve no purpose. The CG used for backgrounds, castles, etc. ranges from mediocre to good, but never excellent. Some of the keys are terrible and really stand out - hopefully they fix some of the CG for the Blu-ray as they have had plenty of time.

Overall, I'm a fan and it does justice to the book better than most adapted works I've seen. I'm excited for season 2 and will likely buy season one on day one.

The Wire (not in HD but still one of the greatest shows of all time) Deadwood (fantastic BD box set came out a little while back) are two killer HBO dramas you should watch if you haven't seen them.

As to shows that are currently airing.... Homeland, Boardwalk Empire, and Dexter are up there with 'em. If you haven't seen any of those you'd be doing yourself a disservice by not checking them out.

Anyway, I've been a huge fan of the ASoIaF series since the original GoT. I fully expected to hate the TV series, I didn't think they could possibly do it justice on a TV budget and I though like most other things the child actors would be obnoxious and terrible (especially Arya.) I was wrong, I friggin love it. This BD set will be a day 1 buy for me. Looking forward to see how they'll handle stuff (won't spoil anything) in future books. Casting so far has been spot on.... I remember watching Black Death and thinking Carise Van Houten would make a perfect Melisandre, guess they thought so too.

Can't wait, this will be a day one purchase for me! I read the book after seeing season one, it's almost not necissary, the show is 99.9% faithful to the book. Now I'm tearing myself about about whether I should read the next books or wait for the shows to come on.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Read them. There is a lot that they won't be able to get to in the series.

Wow! I'm impressed - I'm only through 1.5 of the books since watching. I don't have HBO though so I watched through, well, less than legal means - I'm happy to give them my money when this comes out in March on BD though.

FYI and slightly OT:

For those of you that can't read or don't have the time to read, the audio books are awesome. The voice actors are fantastic.

Picked up Episode 1 of Game of Thrones on blu-ray and I must say by far the best blu ray i've seen bar none. Color reproduction, clarity, black levels, etc etc.... Would love Xylon to get a hold of this.

None did with me, and I'm someone who's read all of the Song of Ice and Fire books. Overall, I found Game of Thrones S1 to be an improvement on A Game of Thrones.

I hope this is priced comparatively to Boardwalk Empire which is going for around $35 release week (this week)! I'd like to buy it and rewatch it before S2 starts.

Hope im not going to get in trouble for replying to this.

Watching the wire right now as it airs on hbo canada (sadly no blu-ray)

I was refering to current shows however. I would say oz and carnivale, rome and other older shows are among breaking bad and game of thrones imo, but i was referring to current shows.

Dexter, and boardwalk i have also watched, but not quite on the same level as breaking bad and game of thrones.

Dexter I got tired of this season after being a loyal follower for 5.

Nope. Just the episode and some subtitles. I posted a scan of the disc in the Specs thread.

Got Ep. 1 (free) as well... STUNNING!!!
I'm a "natural" look too films kind of guy; although I can appreciate "stylized" looks as well (The Matrix, original "O Brother...", original "BS Dracula", etc).
This, IMO, is a perfect mix of a totally movie stylized look (unreal) w/a very natural looking structure. Colors are unbelievably blown out, yet it maintains a very real the look of the world in which the story is taking place.
What a trip!
Fantasy w/likelike details; pure joy.

"I wonder if any of the releases had slipcovers though."

"They look nice in those slips."
"This slipcover looks too good to pass up."

I have not blind bought anything in quite away but based on the bd quality, the streak will end. Banged from behind did I read?

And the price is pretty darn good already but there is time for that to get better. Price wars?
