You could say that Sony has a demented sense of humor about release schedules. At least, that's been the case in the past.

I believe that LOA is being re released in theaters prior to the Blu-ray. Thus, I do not expect the Blu-ray till Fall.

I'm sure that the release will be similiar to 'Taxi Driver' - with 'Lawrence' first having it's restoration debut at this year's Cannes International Film Festival, then the 2K.4K, 70mm theatrical release before the bluray release.

I'm a medium-sized fan. I know So-knee's ways. They like announcing audio and video discs far more than actually releasing them. They frequently are mum about delays or cancels. Given Sony's financial problems, I fear that releasing Lawrence has become less important to them.

After 5 years of waiting, I'm skeptical about their vague release plan. I hope that they surprise me.

I'll be the first to admit Sony has completely botched their LoA BD release.

So... you don't want to see the actual product before you decide you don't like it? Yes, it's been too long and yes, it's lame that they advertised the hell out of this release when the format started. However, I do happen to know that the discs haven't just been sitting in a warehouse for years- they've been actively working on this project for the majority of that time.

I don't feel special...

Yeah, what bunglers, instead of cramming the sorry HD master they had back in 2006 on a blu-ray they decided to actually make it look good.
If only every release was this "botched"

Are you saying the MARKETING wasn't botched?
Six years since the launch of BD and they STILL haven't delivered what was promised?

Yes, Sony never should have promoted Blu-ray with clips of LOA. That said I'm completely confident that by December, 2012 which is the 50th Anniversary of LOA, the Blu-ray will be available to purchase!

Yes, but most people typically interpret the use of the term "release" to indicate something inclusive of... you know... the release.

Physical-disk-in-hand does NOT = "Release" (from a studio's POV).
Semantics aside, I think it's safe to say no one on this forum (as yet) has the LOA BD "in hand."

The pic is more than 4K but less than 8K. Real world detail is covered with 4K. The rest is grain detail.

The image posted is taken from a dupe of a 70mm frame from a 1988 timing print. Looks nothing like the new FotoKem image harvest.

Excellent news. Now if we could only see some 4K stills of the current restoration.

FotoKem scanned the 65mm Baraka negative at 8K (8192 x 3723)... so Lawrence of Arabia should be the same. 5-perf 65mm has an image height of .906 inches, so an 8K scan works out to just about 4,000 PPI (pixels per inch). That should meet (or exceed?) the film emulsion and lens capabilities of 50 years ago. Robert Harris would know better than I.
