Sony Pictures

In an early announcement to retailers, the UK branch of Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has revealed that it is planning to release on Blu-ray director David Lean's epic Lawrence of Arabia (1962). Exact technical specs, region coding status and supplemental features to be included on this release are unknown at the moment, but the preliminary street date set by the studio is June 4th.

Gee whiz, golly jeepers, it must of taken 5 years for So-knee to count up the winning votes for Lawrence Of Arabia after THEIR little election about what to release on BD back in '07.

In real life I am Dot Mongur champion of the International Pacman Federation. I don't play the game, I operate it.....no dot is safe from me....

It's called 'film restoration' and it's a nice thing to do.

I don't feel special...

If it had been released in '07 it would not have ended up looking as good as what it will look like next year due to the 8K restoration.

As to how much worse it would have looked, who knows, but at least we know it's coming now.

I hope it'll be worth the wait. I hope Sony isn't kidding this time. They're famous kidders.

Like I've been saying for the last year or two, since they had waited this long, it was obvious that they would wait until 2012 for the 50th Anniversary.

Needless to say: can't wait!

Like Ben-Hur, I'm very excited for this! Also like Ben-Hur, I'll probably just buy the UK film-only version so I can get it ASAP. My calendar is marked!

I'll wait for the best cover...
JJ!!

"I wonder if any of the releases had slipcovers though."
"Are these comfirmed to have slipcovers?"
"They look nice in those slips."
"This slipcover looks too good to pass up."

the wait has been so long, I was beginning to think sony had damaged the master or something... and then we'd have "nothing is written"

I'm with rob tomlin on this one - LoA is the best movie ever made

To be honest, I'm just sick of the floating heads. It may have originally worked fine for poster art, but the prevalence of releases these days that either take what was decent imagery and slap floating heads on top of it, or dispense with the decent imagery altogether, are cheapening the look.

You get the idea.
LOA deserves a cover that is grandiose and iconic.

I'm personally tired of the terribly photoshopped covers of Peter O'Toole in front of bland monocolored "epic" scenery myself. Give us something new, Sony!

Add long as it's not the purple one I am cool, and it's the same team as Kwai so no need to worry about the disc.

My sentiments exactly. With Robert Harris involved, and Sony's commitment to catalog titles, there should be no reason for concern.

Right?
