Later this year, fans can own Jaws for the first time ever on Blu-ray featuring an all-new, fully restored and digitally remastered picture from original 35mm film elements. Fans of John Williams' iconic score will also love the Blu-ray's DTS-HD Master 7.1 sound, which optimizes the film for the home screening environment.

Mike has a point... Even "The Big Lebowski" was supposedly remastered (now there's a joke!). In Universal-speak "remastered" is void of meaning.

Remastered 7.1 channel sound is all well and good, but I'm still hoping for the original mono as well. I'm as much a purist about my sound as I am about my film grain.

Finally its coming out
Universal said it was remastered
Its Spielberg, so it will not be the same Universal rubbish
It's coming back to cinemas, no way it will be an old master
Oh its an old 2k scan filtered with EE

It's the Universal denial cycle, rinse repeat.

It could be perfect, but its up to Universal to prove me wrong at this point.

It'll be an old master with new DNR.

The proper setting for sharpness is always0.
Also my Oppo BDP-103D is region free.
That makes me awesome.

The version on SKY-HD looks good, but only good. Old early 2k master if I was to guess.
Shame Raiders looks stunning, one of the best remasters out there and yet Jurassic Park was a mess.

Finally. I was going to be mighty pissed if The Shark Is Still Working wasn't part of this Blu-Ray release. It's been so annoying not being able to see that film, year after year.

The thing is, I'd just checked the official web site of TSISW and it didn't mention anything about being an extra on the Blu-Ray. Given people have been asking for years "when are we going to be able to see this movie?" I'd have expected it would be trumpeting it's finally being released for public consumption.

As digitalfreak says, they are not confirmed.

Considering Universal's track record, I am buying this just because it is getting a Steelbook release. If the PQ is meh will simply keep the SB sealed and wait for the 200th anniversary re-release in my next life.

JAWS HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED!!! AUGUST 14th!!

Quote:

Universal City, California, April 10, 2012: JAWS – the landmark motion picture that still makes audiences afraid to go in the water – comes to Blu-rayTM for the first time ever on August 14th, 2012. Featuring an all-new, digitally remastered and fully restored picture, as well as 7.1 surround sound, the JAWS Blu-rayTM Combo Pack with DVD, Digital Copy and UltraVioletTM gives fans the ultimate way to watch the breathtaking and terrifying action-thriller.

One of the most influential motion pictures of all time and nominated for a Best Picture Academy Award®, JAWS stars Oscar® winner Richard Dreyfuss and Oscar® nominees Roy Scheider and Robert Shaw. Produced by legendary filmmakers Richard D. Zanuck and David Brown, the film earned an Oscar® for composer John Williams’ instantly recognizable minimalist score, as well as Oscars® for Best Editing and Best Sound. When it was first released in 1975, JAWS smashed box-office records and became the highest-grossing film of its era, earning Spielberg a reputation as a Hollywood visionary. Today, it remains one of the highest-grossing films in motion-picture history and is largely considered the film that launched the summer blockbuster.

JAWS is one of 13 classic Universal films to be digitally remastered and fully restored from 35mm original film elements as part of Universal’s ongoing 100th Anniversary celebration. The JAWS restoration began with researching and evaluating the existing film elements to determine the best means to restore the film. Over the course of several months, skilled technicians at Universal Studios Digital Services meticulously balanced color, removed dirt and scratches, and repaired any damage to the film elements shot by shot and frame by frame. Following the picture restoration, Universal Studios Sound team up-mixed the iconic JAWS soundtrack to DTS-HD Master 7.1, optimizing the sound on the Blu-rayTM for the latest home theater technology. The entire restoration process was conducted in conjunction with Steven Spielberg and Amblin Entertainment’s post-production team to ensure the integrity of Spielberg’s original vision remained intact.

“JAWS holds a unique place, not just in Universal Pictures’ history, but in global pop culture,” said Craig Kornblau, President of Universal Studios Home Entertainment. “It is only fitting that this phenomenal film should be given the extensive restoration needed to ensure that long-time fans as well as newcomers can enjoy this unforgettable cinematic achievement for generations to come.”

The JAWS Blu-ray™ Combo Pack is available in collectible Universal 100th Anniversary packaging for a limited time. The Combo Pack also contains a Digital Copy of the film for a limited time, compatible with iTunes®, iPad®, iPhone®, iPod™ touch, Android or online retail partners, as well as an UltraViolet™ copy. UltraViolet is the revolutionary new way for consumers to collect movies and TV shows in the cloud to download and stream instantly to computers, tablets and smartphones. What's with that little "Open for more!" tag on the side? Have Universal field sales reps seen customers staring at video boxes on the rack, asking themselves, "That's it?!"

I don't feel special...

So am I to understand that only 13 films out of 100 years worth are getting "the full treatment"?

For me to buy this film, it must:

1. OAR
2. Original lossless sound mix
3. Not be filtered

Doesn't appear to be. Looks the same as Universal's other anniversary releases with a cardboard slipcover over a standard case.
