LOL ok Oink. You just keep telling everyone Total Recall is a garbage transfer. Hopefully most folks here are informed enough to take that with a truckload of salt.

You don't like the color and I get that. Oink doesn't give a crap about the color, he just hates optical printing. So yeah, there's a distinction there I guess.

I am surprised by all the negativity on this one in here. One of the better Universal catalog titles I have seen and would not hesitate to recommend this one to fans.

So this has been out for about a month or so, but I finally got around to watching it last night. Now I had heard that they did a tremendous job on the restoration, but I couldn't believe how good it looked on Blu-ray. I saw things on there that I haven't ever seen before, and no I am not talking about the skinny dipping girl in the opening scene. Little things like, Quint stabbing the shark in the face with the machete over and over again as he was getting eaten. Somehow, I had missed that. I watched this on my Optima HD20 throwing a 131" screen, and it just looked so great and immersive. Also, the sound on this film has greatly been improved. They took the mono sound track and made an excellent 7.1 track.

I haven't watched much of the special features yet, but I did watch the restoration feature where they showed the process of restoring Jaws as part of Universal's 100th year celebration. It really is quite impressive with what they have done.

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

Hey me too. Too me, Jaws looked and sounded as close to flawless as I need.
The surprise to me is how crankable the 7.1 mix is. The barest hint of age in the upper end but really quite a remarkable soundtrack.
More importantly, what a great film. IMO, the best film Spielberg has made so far.
The cinematography and the flow of Jaws is a lesson in how to make a movie.
Robert Shaw commands the screen. Quint, Brody and Hooper play perfectly off each other.

I've always loved this film but now I appreciate it even more.

It ain't ignorance causes so much trouble; it's folks knowing so much that ain't so

I don’t know about that, but I would put Jaws above E.T., one of the most overrated movies of all time. Imho Spielberg has produced only 2 movies that are a cut above the rest. Schindler’s List and Saving Private Ryan.

My favorite Speilberg directed films in order:
Saving Private Ryan
Shiindlers List
Jaws
Raiders Of The Lost Ark
Munich
Catch Me If You Can
Temple Of Doom
Minority Report
ET

I like ET, but have never really loved it. At least not as much as many of his other works.

That said, I have it preordered and cannot wait to watch it with the family.

Wow. I feel just the opposite.

Other than the opening beach seen from SPR, that felt like your average "soldiers walking through the woods and occasionally exncounting the enemy, leading up to a big shootout toward the end - followed by war over" movies that Hollywood has churned out for years.

While Schindler's List was magnificent overall, the ending fell flat for me with Schindler bawling about how many ways he could have saved more people.

Granted, there are plenty of movies I would pick as favorites well before ET, I seriously question the "one of the most overrated movies of all time" categorization of it. There are plenty that come to mind for me that were far more overrated (including some that won or were up for Best Picture). A few of them include:

- Avatar
- Inception
- Titanic
- Crash
- The Hurt Locker
- Shakespeare in Love
- The Social Network
- Brokeback Mountain

Heck, I really like Forrest Gump (it was a fun movie), but that one was waaaay overrated.

Couldn't agree more. I feel Jaws and Munich to be the only Speilberg movies that are a cut above the rest because they contain none of that sentimentality that Speilberg fells he needs to put in every movie even if it's totally out of place. Schindler's List and SPR are great movies but Schindler bawling and the cemetary scenes in SPR at the end felt so out of place that it felt like a different movie and are big flaws with both. Jaws is just perfect moviemaking in every way from the pacing to the character depth and perhaps the best 3rd act in movie history. I think both Schindlers and SPR get a little too much praise because of the subject matter but Jaws is generally regarded by most as the better made "movie" in that it's just almost flawless story telling.

Yep, those are the 2 biggest weaknesses.

Do you have a point, other than proving that the Blu-ray is superior in every comparison? Good job.

We really need screencaps comparing the Blu-Ray to Comcast, Cox, Time Warner, etc. I suspect the difference would be even larger in favor of Blu-Ray for US consumers since SkyHD is not an option.

I asked a very simple question - was there a point to your posting those comparisons? Why can't you just answer? I'm not judging you, I'm asking a simple question. What's funny about two people sharing the same opinion about why you would post something without having a point? Are you saying that the DVD and broadcast somehow look superior or are more preferable to the Blu-ray? Or are you showing how superior the Blu-ray is in every way?

I do not have to explain myself to you, unless you plan on doing the same for all of your posts.
You need to stop reading into things with your own agenda.
Some times things are just skin deep, and maybe I posted it so people can look and make their own minds up but the same chorus defense force sprung into action like clockwork.
