I wonder if we'll be getting a new soundmix ala JP. I just hope they give us the original track in DTS-HD MA.

To this day I still have trouble swimming in open water of any kind. Thanks, Spielberg.

Let's hope he puts more effort into this than the JP release. And by "more", I mean "some".

Boy, I really hope that The Shark is Still Working makes it to that release. It's been completed for quite some time now and I can only imagine that rights issues are holding it back.

Interestingly, I was at a Q&A with John Landis talking about the then pending BD release of American Werewolf and he mentioned that the feature length, fan-made doc almost didn't make it to the disc because Universal's legal dept was concerned about rights issues. Landis had to get on the phone and advocate for the doc personally before Universal relented. I believe that there are issues that come up when documentaries over 30min appear on discs (which is why so many clock in around the 28-29min mark) and even after several rounds of editing, Shark is still 2hrs long.

I hope so too, that and the full laserdisc doc.

According to the JAWS news yesterday over @ The Digital Bits, Uni may also be issuing some if not all of the less than stellar sequels on BD, too. JAWS 3D may be getting the 3D BD treatement as well. Now THAT is scary!

As long as I can buy Jaws by itself, they can do whatever they want to do with the sequels.

+1

Also, I hope SS remains true to his promise not to tinker with any of the old effects. I really hope this disc turns out well!

Modern 3D or red/blue glasses 3D?

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

It's going to be hard waiting for summer.

I feel like a little kid again waiting for the original Jaws to come out!

BTW, on the subject of Spielberg's desire to see things like strings left in for old visual effects: I'm kind of on board with that. I hate big time tinkering with movies.

That said, there have been times I've appreciated a bit of touching up. For the BladeRunner release I was actually relieved to see the ropes holding up the Spinners removed. That had always taken me out of the movie during those shots. I'd know they were coming and it would have a wince factor like I wanted to try and ignore an obvious kludge that happens in the middle of all the other seamless FX. Now I can fully enjoy those spinner shots.

Is this going to turn out like the terrible JP Trilogy or will this be a director supervised release?

Jaws is Spielberg's most beloved and well known baby, so I'm guessing he will have some involvement but factual news about the Blu-Ray is non-existent at this point beyond the fact that it is planned for release next year.
