Excellent. After all these years and all these attempts at theatre gimmicks, that still sits fresh in my mind, as one of the funniest things ever.
The entire audience bought it, myself included.

Gremlins 2 wasn't just a movie. It was an experience, man!

It's underrated, and looked great for a Warner title

Agreed. I suspect the "Home Video Version" will never be seen in Hi Def as the new scenes were probably created on video. I'd still like both versions included if possible, like on the DVD.

Why would anyone want the "home video version"? It wasn't funny and ruins one of the more amusing "4th wall" moments of the film. Putting those scenes in the extras, fine, but seamless branching? Umm, no.

Well, I'm one who always enjoyed this one more than the first! Great 80s social satire, liberally peppered with cinematic/pop-culture references, stop-motion animation, with a Looney Tunes patina. At the time, just the Hulk Hogan sequence and Christopher Lee's lip-quiver when viewing a vampire bat were worth the price of admission alone. Spot-on performances by Picardo, Glover, and Havilland Morris ("Marla....smoke!") as well. I never picked up the first one but I'll defintely be grabbing this.

While I did enjoy the sequel, I do prefer the original.

The only thing that ruined the original for me was the bar scene. It was nonsense. Not only was it silly that the girlfriend was in there serving beer to the gremlins, it violated the "getting wet" rule. Technically, so did the Gremlins being out in snow, but being splashed with beer with no effect was blatant.

So true! But I often overlook logic in movies. (Especially these days!) I did enjoy the first one as well but have found that, with the second movie, one finds even more to like/discover in repeat viewings.

time for a segment of "let's overthink this some more since people who brought this crap up already are"

beer while mostly water has other things in it... maybe it needs to be just plain water and the alcohol (among other things) in the beer cancel out the effect of water on the mogwai/gremlin

as for snow... maybe the water must be in it's liquid state to do it's thing and a gremlin's body temperature is low enough to not melt the snow

Or the whole mogwai thing is mysticism and magic, and maybe ought not be looked at so technically.

Hey, I'm just going by what the old man said: never get them wet. He didn't say "never get water on them".

But, that all doesn't change the fact that deleting the bar scene would have improved the movie.

I don't think it's too much to ask to have a movie live by its own rules - especially when they are specifically mentioned. I don't have a problem with mythical/magical creatures that when wet, reproduce; when fed after midnight, become bigger and really evil and have a really bad allergy to too much light.

When?

I've always wondered too since they can breed in gremlin form by getting wet, what happens if one of them eats after midnight? Do they mutate again?

As much as I adore the original, one of my favorites ever honestly, the sequel just never clicked with me either. It's fun on its own I guess, but the original sort of had that perfect balance of humor and horror, character dev, and effects. God, those puppets are a miracle sometimes. I fear for a remake or other sequel where they're all CG'ed.

The movie breaks each and every rule it sets in the beginning, another reason why I love it. Bright light? What about the theater? That screen isn't bright enough, or the projector bulb? What about the sparks when Spike is manipulating the street lights? The bulldozer with two giant beams sprouting from it?

Wetness is broken multiple times as mentioned, including the beer and snow.

And fed after midnight, unless I've missed something (in the sequel maybe?) is never clarified.

The proper setting for sharpness is always0.
Also my Oppo BDP-103D is region free.
That makes me awesome.

That's sort of my point though. If the rules are "don't get water on them", that is different than "don't get them wet using liquids predominantly composed of water" if you are looking at it as "rules of magic" rather than from a physical science point of view. Maybe the translation from chinese to english was bad.

I don't know. I am fairly rabid about consistency and scientific realism, but beer being wet didn't really trip my reflex. One might also argue they didn't stay focused on the ones drinking the beer, so they might very well have popped out a few more gremlins right after doing so.

But things like that have made me completely despise other movies that most people have no problem enjoying, so who am I to wave away anyone's objections.
