First the original 1972 Poseidon Adventure announced for Blu-Ray release in France and now Westworld. Hope they both have a similar US release.

"Yes!!"

^^^Exactly the word that went through my mind when I read this.

I've really wanted this one on Blu-Ray. I held off watching my DVD copy with my son hoping for an HD version but eventually watched it with him thinking "Ahhh...why wait.. it'll be years if ever that this movie makes it to Blu-Ray." And here it is. Better late than never.

Yul Brynner's performance is literal perfection in this movie. Still as cold and menacing as ever when I watch it.

Wait...I hadn't clicked the link before posting. What region will this Blu-Ray be?
Can we Canadians get a hold of one?

For some reason I thought it was never anamorphic.

GREAT too have an all region player too.

Oh, crap. I need to know if this will be region locked...or, assuming it will be, how far out we'll likely have to wait before this makes it Stateside...

Also of possible interest, the 1976 sequel, Futureworld, was just released in December on Blu-ray by German distributor Koch:

http://www.amazon.de/Futureworld-Das.../dp/B005UJFGNM

According to the DVD Beaver review, the German release of Futureworld is region free but the extra features are PAL 576i50:

Although those beaver grabs do not scream 'upscale' to me, according to viewer feedback it looks suspiciously like an upscale, much like another recent German Koch release - Scanners (which was pretty much proven to be over on caps-a-holic). I have noticed Beaver seems reluctant to call a full-on upscale what it really is though. There was also an Australian release in October from MGM via Shock Records, and going by Shock's other recent MGM exclusive BDs, it's almost guaranteed to at least be genuine HD (along with lossy 2.0 dolby digital). Unfortunately, again like the other MGM Shock releases, info is scarce to non-existant. ...Westworld forthcoming?

Assuming I'm mangling the French correctly, the review is modestly positive--but I'm still holding out for confirmation on region lock. And maybe some screenshots of Daphne...

It's unfortunate that it's Region B, I would love to get this, I may have to get a region B player sometime.

I might think about buying it I have the region 2 DVD and I’m pleased with how it looks colour balance brightness/contrast looks nice on the CRT.

The sequel Futureworld (1976) is out on Bluray a few months ago, I have the region 2 DVD of it running now or 3rd time tonight and most other nights I like to give my ears a rest after loud really loud films.

Last time I played Westworld was 2 weeks ago at least 5 times in one night. I’d doubt the bluray would get a 4 track release like the 35mm magnetic.

The Disc has serious Compression issues!
"Beneath" the compression it would be just solid PQ. Better than DVD. Not more and not less.
But the Artefacts are ugly!

I'm going to assume the disc really is region locked as advertised...that combined with the above screenshots (not horrible, IMHO, but even while I can't pick out the actual artifacting it still looks...off) makes this a miss for me. I guess it'll be Stateside sometime next year or some such...

Typically when I buy a Blu-Ray previously deemed horrible by the grain and dnr police, I am pleasantly suprised, and never once has the Blu-Ray not been a significant upgrade from my DVD.

Whatever it's deviations from perfection, this is (in all likelihood) the best consumer release the film has ever had, and will look better than the DVD. That's good enough for me to be excited to buy it, rather than twiddle my thumbs waiting...waiting...hoping that we get closer to perfection in some future release of this
minor title.

"BTTDVD"
IMO, is "NGE"*.

HD w/5 times the resolution of SD & w/lossless audio should be a HUGE improvement for me too reinvest my $$$.
I'm supposed too re-buy 1200 DVD's for "Better Than The Last Release" w/HD?!?!
I already doubled & tripled dipped w/DVD; "BTTDVD" just means, too me, I'm double, triple, & quadruple dipping! !! !!! !!!!
Not for me & if it is released better on BD, that means I'm double dipping in HD.
Something I didn't even want too do in SD.

I don't care if someone buys this title.
I'm only saying "BTTDVD" isn't good enough for me.

For those of you who have the BD and either of the previous DVD releases: could you do me a favor and check the BD's audio levels in chapter 31 (the dungeon, near the end of the movie) versus the DVD? The DVD audio is lower than normal in that chapter for some strange reason, and if nothing else I'm hoping they finally cleared that up...

At first, I was impressed. But I'm worried about that thin white line that is on the black borders. Is this from that the picture has been artificially sharpened?

I can remember the HUGE hype when this was first released.
It made a big impact at the time.
Hopefully, it has held up well after all these years.

Haven't seen it in decades, but really looking forward to its U.S. release.
