Great movie, although very dark (not the cinematography.) Stick around past the end credits.

I missed this at the theater but it got rave reviews by my friends. May have to try a blind buy.

I got the BR a day early from Amazon. The audio is extremely immersive. But the video is not what I recall at the theater - I saw it twice there. Seems to be a lot less grain and some mismatches from sequence to sequence in how the colors look. Still it can be interesting to watch a film a third time because there is always something to learn that I did not realize while watching it the first and second times. And there is the final short sequence at the tail end of the credits that take quite awhile to run.

If you've seen it 3 times must be a darn good film! Hope to watch it tonight for very first time. Beauty of film is watching a movie multiple times and discovering new things with each viewing (now if I can just convince my wife!). Glad to know you need to stick around to the tail end of the credits.

There are deleted scenes which when you watch them, you will know why they were deleted. Then there is the commentary that the detractors of this film will never watch: at the very beginning of the commentary (3 people) the director, I believe, states that the commentary will be done while all 3 of them are drinking scotch and he, jokingly or perhaps seriously, suggests that the viewer do the same. And then there is a commentary on the very last scene in the picture that is at the very end of the closing screen credits.

SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was just explaining to my wife how the movie was great up to the end. It was as if the writers/director could not figure out how to film the climatic battle so they just rolled the credits. I failed to watch all of the credits so, I threw it in and skipped to end. I'm a little more satisfied but, not much.

Liam Neeson, performance in this is one of his best. It's a very exposed and haunting portrayl of a man trying to cope with the events that have occurred in his life. He almost seems exploited in a way considering how close to home this character is.

SPOILERS

.......................

Xerowarp - Without giving away the farm, I felt the ending was exactly the point of the film and wasn't something where "they couldn't figure out what to do." The outcome of the Neeson-wolf battle doesn't matter; it was the determination of the character to engage in the fight and not lay down that was the point. That was the message you were supposed to walk away from. It's intentionally ambiguous, but then, after you see the credits tag, it's not really. Yet, the overall point wasn't whether or not he lost. It was the fact he chose to live by going down fighting, one way or the other, and hadn't entirely given up hope (watch how he activates the watch to signal for a rescue, even though he had basically ridiculed that device previously)...that was the message...IMO.

From the commentary, the correct answer is not Nope. The cut is so fast, probably 2 or 3 seconds, that it is hard to see, unless you are looking for it. Of course, you can always freeze frame it. It was only after listening to the commentary that I saw it. It is purposely left vague as to what the outcome was and does not change the outcome of the last scene before the ending credits begin to roll.

You might want to watch the last scene again.

The alpha wolf is lying there breathing hard just like the wolf that Ottman killed at the beginning of the film. But on the right side of the screen is Ottman's head and it is lying against the wolf, but it is motionless. His hair blends in very well with the wolf's fur, and is thus very hard to see unless you are looking for it because one's focus is on the center of the screen. So, there is no way to determine whether or not he survived the fight with the alpha wolf. This was certainly the intent of the director and the editors. The only thing that can be certain is that the alpha wolf is taking his last breaths.

See the Spoiler above. Warning: avoid reading it if you haven't seen the film and want to watch it.

Haunting and terrifying . I got the end which has been a point of contention among some viewers . From now on I'm driving to where I have to go . Need to bring this up . Is it me or is movie sound getting better with each passing year ? The sound mix is one of the most immersive I've ever listened to . Got to watch with the air condition all the way up to set the mood .

build coffins. that's all you'll need. R Neville

No, not really....this is about making wolves into monsters for the sake of a buck.

Here is a link to another thread that discusses this movie in depth.

Obviously, you are not part of the target audience for this film. Have you seen it?

Making a buck? Most people do something to make a living which you may or may not agree with. Jaws (sharks)? Them (ants)? War of the Worlds (Martians)? The Dictator (a tyrant)? Monsters all of them.

If you look at it as a realistic survival movie, then it will be quite ridiculous, but you would of missed the whole point. This was a fantastic movie, but obviously not for everyone.

My interpretation is that everyone died and is in some form of purgatory. The wolves are exaggerated because they represent death. Liams charactor considered taking his own life at one point. The ultimate sin if you believe that type of stuff. "Live and die on this day"??? He must live again by fighting, or at least not surrendering to, the alpha wolf (death???) By his refusing to give up, he's choosing to live again, and then and only then can he die?.. Other characters had major life changes before they died. This is just one of several interpretations this film left with me and needs repeated viewing. Unfortunately I didn't blind buy and rented it on amazon. I will be buying it soon.
