While I liked the music, I've never been able to get into the movie but might try it again, as it has been awhile. You are right that the musical score should be awesome.

Thanks for the alert!

"Twentieth Century Fox is working closely with the filmmakers and the BFI to bring Chariots of Fire back to 100 cinema screens up and down the country. With a stunning new digitally re-mastered print, the iconic British film promises to dazzle on the big screen once again."

Well 2012 Olympics might have something to do with this announcement...but I'm not complaining! Love this movie, hope it really shines on blu-ray. It deserves it.

Love Vangelis and the soundtrack but I've never actually seen the movie, maybe it's time.

Ouch, not good. Totally degrained and digital looking.

In the third pic, guys' hair in the foreground lack all detail.

Is my sarcasm detector off today? Because I hope that's what this is.

If not, it's pretty dumb to make a comment like that based on a 480p screencap, even dumber if you didn't click on them to get the 480p cap and are just looking at them in the body of DVDMike's post.

When I click I get 730x430. Maybe a browser issue? If so, sorry to Jimbotron!

After clicking the image, you have to right click > view image. Then it will be full res in firefox.

If these shots are accurate, I would say there is definitely some DNR going on here. Just look at the guy's face in the first shot, very waxy surfaces next to sharp edges. Not to mention the total lack of grain throughout that should show up on 35mm. Compression rate seems awful, too, you can see blocks of pixelation where fine detail should be.

Dillon: My men were in that chopper when it got hit! Hopper's orders were to go in and remove grain and the detail just disappeared.
Dutch: It didn't disappear. It was scrubbed alive!

I did that and when going back and doing it again it didn't behave the same way - I got small images. Viewing it in a new tab worked. Weird.

edit: I pre-ordered from Amazon.co.uk and the BD page said 9 GBP but when I put it in my cart it was 7.50 GBP. With shipping 10 GBP compared to Amazon.com's pre-order price of $28.95. I just realized the price difference is probably due to the VAT.

Links seem to be broken..
edit: seems that site doesn't like direct links for some reason. in firefox, if you select the URL text and hit enter it loads the image.
Looks pretty excellent, to my eyes.

Awe, give him the benefit of the doubt. His screenshots are the real deal. BFI/Fox probably saw the negative response from this thread and remastered it really quick before pumping them out in full production. wink.gif

When you get that error, reload the page by selecting the URL text box and hitting enter. Worked for me (on firefox)
