I have not seen a BD release date yet but it must be coming soon. Looking forward to it mainly for the WWII action, did not catch it in the theatres.

Cool, thanks Morpheo!
Hopefully this BD is stellar technically as I hear nothing good about script, performances...

Hopefully at least 7.1, would be interesting if it was higher.

Too bad the 11.1 was underwhelming. Saw it in 11.1 in Calabasas. The movie, itself, was pretty forgetable too.

I agree!

No subwoofer I've heard has been able to produce the bass I've experienced in the Corps!

Must..stop...buying...every bluray release...

How bad was it? Too be honest i don't even know if it ever hit cinemas over here. Going by the trailer it looks quite good.

i want to be excited about the bluray

saw it in theaters and felt a little let down

opening credits made me think of a cheap made for tv movie as well as the very end of the film...

there were some cringe worthy lines (mostly the "hey those are black guys flying" lines) the ONE use of the "n-word" by a white person (possibly it's only use in the whole film) just felt awkward and forced as if the actor was really saying "go home [don't want to take chances of getting a warning for even using it in an example]... please don't hit me for dropping the n-bomb"

and if anyone wants i can go and nitpick some technical bits regarding the aircraft featured

Sure let's hear it. If you guys keep lowering my expectations I may actually enjoy it more when it releases

Shame to hear the AQ was underwhelming though, what type of theatre?

One of a handful of theatres that had been converted to 13.1-channel playback using the Auro 3D system from Barco:

As Scott mentioned, a bunch of us from the local home theatre group got together to see "the first movie in 11.1", reviews followed:

Thanks for the link to your impressions, found them helpful! Sounds like a great theatre. It's a shame that Lucas and company came up short in the AQ but hopefully it will still be entertaining in my modest 7.1 setup.
cheers,

Lucas claims its because studios said that the "black" market isn't profitable overseas which is 60% of the market overall. As racist as it may seem, they are right when it comes to profitability. Then you make a Ho-Hum type of movie=loss of any profit till Blu-ray.

http://jjb.yuku.com/topic/700219/Geo...----Black-Cast

Lucas needs to just retire already and hand off his franchises to people in his company. Could be some great movies based on Knights of the Old Republic, proper sequels, TV shows, etc.... Basically Lucas really ****ed up the Star Wars Universe by not handing the reigns over to someone more capable. Star Wars should have been what Star Trek became. Plenty of stories to tell, big universe. IMO

Cool Beans.

With what happened with hunger games over the weekend, I am shocked they played the race card.

As of March, 2012, apparently now 'about 30' theaters worldwide, and "forecast" to be 'about 100' theaters worldwide by the end of 2012 . . . per this (March 2012) interview at Musikmesse 2012 (relevant dialog starting 8:20)...

Wonder if there is a running list of installs here in the US (would be nice to find a theatre closer to me than Calabasas).

A modern Lucas film that underwhelms? Say it ain't so!

Unfortunately, I have no choice but to see this film as I love WWII fighters and the Tuskegee story. However, I'll spend $1.50 at RedBox. Sorry, Lucas, but that's all the money you'll ever get from me again.

I should have been part of the target audience for Red Tails, and I skipped it. I'm big into WW2 aviation, and I love the story of the Tuskegee Airmen. However, the trailers made the move look pretty bad. For one thing, every non-flying scene looked hokey and sappy. And the flying just looked like poor CGI. I play a WW2 flight sim online; and the effects looked too much like the game (and its graphics are 10 years old).

I'll probably rent it, though.

It would be hard to believe that the BR audio is going to be better than what I heard in Calabasas, CA at 13.1. This is an easy pass when it comes to buying it, not even at $5.99 whether or not it is in 7.1 or not. I might breakdown and put it on my Netflix list.

I guess you'll just have to wait to see if the Red Tails BD says something like "playback in 9.1 or higher requires use of an Auro-3D decoder (available separately!)" in order to find out whether it will let you 'replicate your theater experience' . . . "for a few dollars more"...?!

I think it will be dolby IIz or neo like certain games are.
I think if you run if thru one of those filters some of the info would be there.

According to the announcement it's merely 5.1 DTS-HD MA.

I read that the 13.1 was unfolded from a 7.1 native stream.

If the disc really only has 5.1 than its just the 5.1 EX mix used for most theaters.

The proper setting for sharpness is always0.
Also my Oppo BDP-103D is region free.
That makes me awesome.

Possibly but the 7.1 mix was made to become 13.1 while the 5.1 was only made to become 6.1, I think they are actually 2 different tracks for completely different venues.

We won't ever know because nobody will be able to compare 5.1 with DD ProLogicIIXZ to the 7.1 mix with Aero Surround.

Any AVR implementation of Galaxy's (combo) Octopus-Decoder|Auromatic-Upmixer will likely be as a post-processor . . . where it can operate on 5.1|7.1 LPCM content whether 'read straight' from BD, or decoded from DTS-HDMA or TrueHD.

Regardless of whether the Red Tails BD is 5.1 LPCM or DTS-HDMA 5.1, what really matters is whether the source 5.1 LPCM for the BD is (1) just the 5.1 surround sound mix or (2) a 5.1 Auro-encoded PCM-stream carrying both the 9.1|10.1|11.1 Aurophonic and the 5.1 surround sound mixes. Either version fed through some as-yet-unavailable Octopus-Decoder|Auromatic-Upmixer would presumably deliver a 9.1 thru 13.1 channel mix 'to match the playback system configuration'. The real difference would be one of 'encoded+decoded as-authored 9.1|10.1|11.1 Aurophonic mix' versus "blind upmix" from a (basic) 5.1 surround sound mix . . . and if all the CE participants did their jobs correctly, then you might not be able to tell the difference unless your AVR has helpful indicator lights!

March 2012 YouTube interview at Musikmesse 2012 (see Post #18) seems to indicate release of some Octopus-Decoder|Auromatic-Upmixer equipped devices "later this year" (relevant dialog starting 7:00).

[For Reference: Auro-3D Octopus Codec White Paper.]
