By display chain I meant player, VP and display.

I really dislike studios dumbing down releases to the lowest common denominator, when they should be aiming for the highest and allowing the consumer to dumb it down to their individual tastes: you can't go the reverse path once entropy has done its work.

In fairness, a lot of consumer displays come out of the box adjusted for shop-level lighting - which means massively inflated contrast/brightness/backlight/sharpness. Also means stuff like grain sticks out like a gigantic sore thumb, hence why studios end up DNR'ing the heck out of it - because Joe Average sees it through his eye-burning display and thinks "why the heck is this so fuzzy?"

That at the very least makes the majority of consumer displays inferior... Even if people can calibrate them to be better.

Yeah, i hate to bring up an old thread here, but I finally got the Mind Bending TR BR disc this week (4.99). I looked through the thread and saw most talk on color/dnr/lip sync, but my problem is there appears to be some studdering in some scenes on the disc. Or even yet, some slight fast forwarding that last but a second. Hard to explain, but never have seen this on a BR before.

The BR itself, I was expecting this look a tad better, but it's an old disc and not complaining about the actual transfer. Just wanted to know if anyone had issues with the studdering/fast forwarding issue? Not sure if that makes sense, but that's all I got.

There was earlier discussion in this thread about the fact that this disc runs at 24.000 fps instead of the more common 23.976. This could cause dropped frames on some displays. Maybe that's what you're seeing.

See my earlier post and surrounding discussion.

Yes the periodic stutter is due to the incorrect flagging of 24fps versus 23.976.
Picture wise I think it looks great.

Best regards,
