I agree, fun to watch.

Unobtainium is "real", BTW.

Sure, the reason why I didn't include the others was because the science-part wasn't driving the movie.
E.g. if you take Armageddon, yes there are science parts in regard to the event of having an astroid crashing into the earth but everything else is just an actionflick with lots of humour mixed into it.

The Core starts of from how birds navigate, how pacemakers might get messed up, to what happens if the earth magnetic field goes away (by the way one of the most funniest scenes is when they demonstrate this in front of the panel ), then how that magnetic field is believed to be generated and so forth, there is a lot more attempts to trying to make it more scientific rather than fiction, the fiction part is the journey to "restart" the magnetic field.

And no I wouldn't include The Day After Tomorrow in the "good" category either but again in the "guilty pleasure" category.
I don't mind The Core either (as I already stated) but it's not a great movie either.

Not quite, it depends on how you use it
It's a "placeholder" or "term" for yet to be discovered/created materials.
But since the material had been invented (in the movie) it wouldn't be "unobtainium" anymore.

Edit: I don't think we need to get into a philosophical debate around this but I think the word itself have the most meaningful explanation

The scene that actually made me want topunch the TV was when they put the vessel on auto-pilot.

Never mind they went out of their way to get a damn fine awesome pilot to guide the vessel to the core. But they put it on auto pilot and nothing bad happened.

So dumb. So stupid. So insulting.

This movie is just a modern equivelent to the cheesy sci fi movies of the 50's and 60's. It's completely and totally inplausable, but still a jolly good time. And I love that James Cameron stole from a bottom of the barrel movie like this lol.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.
