Been waiting a terribly long time for this…

also Airport comes out too.
LL

The proper setting for sharpness is always0.
Also my Oppo BDP-103D is region free.
That makes me awesome.

I generally like View Askew, but Mallrats was a big letdown when I saw it. I haven't seen Gigli, but it's the worst Kevin Smith movie I've seen. I own the HD-DVD.

Once was way more than enough for me with Mallrats.

I don't feel special...

Pass.

It's amazing how much goodwill Mallrats gets solely off of Jason Lee's performance. The majority of the movie is terrible, particularly any time Claire Forlani or Jeremy London open their mouths.

...and yet it's still better than everything post-Dogma.

I love me some Mallrats, I actually ordered the extended DVD only yesterday and saw the Blu-ray listed too.

The HD DVD was execrably bad (worst EE this side of 40 Year Old Virgin) and I don't think that the Blu-ray will show any improvement. But it's the only one of Smith's numerous 'Jersey Trilogy' movies that I haven't got on Blu, so it's definitely getting added to my collection.

Well it wouldn't be "Remastered for HDTV" if they didn't...

I hope this finds its way stateside. Is Universal known for releasing titles abroad that they never release here? Or is there a chance this will get announced in the near future for a US release?

Fight mediocrity: Insist on BD50 discs for all movies longer than 100 minutes, optimized video encodes that fully utilize the available space, lossless audio track, and new masters for catalog titles!

Yeah, Universal tend to release them first overseas as bare bones jobs (like Smokey And The Bandit, which has been out over here for a while) before releasing the proper version Stateside. If Mallrats has any extras at all I'll be very surprised.

I have an UK edition. It looks filtered for sure with EE and DNR, but I couldn't find any caps from hd dvd so I can't be sure that it's the same master...

It's been heavily processed, but in motion it's not the most offensive Blu-ray I've ever seen. Detail is very respectable in spite of the DNR, with the image still clinging on to some small vestige of its grain. I remember hating the HD DVD version for the EE, which was so bad it looked like there were force fields around everything, yet it's not quite that offensive on Blu. Obvious, yes, but not horribly bad. But, as makov said, without a direct comparison I can't honestly say whether it's the same master as the HD DVD.

There are some scenes with quite offensive EE, i.e.:

Fortunately for the most time EE is not visible or it's minor.
