Not only that, but I found myself cringing and rolling my eyes every time he whipped out his collapsible bow and did his little arm flick to make it pop open. Do it once, OK, that's kinda cool. Do it every time, OK, not so cool. I can almost hear Joss, "Alright now, Jer, make sure you turn to have your arm perfectly perpendicular to the camera and be sure to extend your arm out unnaturally far. We're going to get this onscreen as often as we can. Great, great job!"

By the end of the film you begin to think that's his only ability.

Sorry, I've never been a Hawkeye fan, so I'm biased against his character from the start.

I thought it was a creative, action oriented, SHIELD'ish way to open a bow that actually doesn't exist in real life. How else would you open it? And how else would you film it?

I suppose that IF I had filmed it, I would not have focused on it so specifically or so often. Like I said, it's kinda cool the first time you see it, but there was no reason to turn it into a focal point of every Hawkeye scene. Have him still do it, but do it naturally in the background. Don't make it so obvious, that's all.

But I didn't film it, so I get to complain. biggrin.gif

Of course you do. This is AVS.

It's our God-given right to complain about every detail of stuff here...that is, if religion weren't prohibited, meaning it's more like "Non-denominational representative-given right".... wink.gif

Man..."....still do it but in the background...." I actually like what I think that would look like since he's kind of a secondary hero anyway. That could have meant another $5K to the box office for sure. I'm sure Joss is reading this forum daily and see's this and will figure out a way to get you a check for putting it in The Avenger's 2. I'm not sure it's enough for screeenplay credit but at least some kind of production credit is in order. wink.gif

Can't say I noticed, so it must have been your critiquing eye. I did notice that he'd input or do something to the bow / arrows now and then, which wasn't really self explanatory. Seemed like some sort of aim assist or communication between the arrow and his eye/headset?

Y'know what, I didn't mind the goofy bow thing. What really roasted my nuts was Whedon's obsession with Hawkeye's Super-Awesome-Select-O-Quiver™. It seemed like every time he reached for an arrow we HAD to have a shot of him fiddling with his quiver, to make it crystal clear that he wasn't launching his special arrows at random. He's a very barren character, in terms of both the writing and the performance, and that's something which even Renner has commented on recently.

Agreed. That testing the suit scene could have been so much better. Instead it had a YouTube feel.

Compared to what? Alan Silvestri's 'amazing' Avenger's score?

At least I can actually remember Iron Man's theme.

It's only a matter of opinion, but an opinion clearly reflected in boxoffice performance.

Released in 2008, IRON MAN 1 is still the highest grossing Marvel comics film, other than this year's THE AVENGERS. In fact, THE DARK KNIGHT was the only film to outgross IRON MAN in 2008.

So in answer to your question, yes, IRON MAN 1 really was that good. At the very least, IRON MAN 1 was good enough to spawn IRON MAN2, IRON MAN 3... and I would argue THE AVENGERS as a de facto sequel. None of the other members of THE AVENGERS (Captain America, Hulk, Thor) came close to earning IRON MAN 1 money in their own individual films -- and none of them even came close to IRON MAN 2's boxoffice either.

It's probably not a coincidence that IRON MAN 1 and THE AVENGERS are the only two Marvel flicks I'll own on bluray.

Compared to anything. The only music I can recall from Iron Man is the rock song that played when they were in Afganistan (Aerosmith, I think).

I didnt see the Avengers at the theater because this type of movie usually doesn't appeal to me or the wife. Saying that we have watched the 3d bluray twice now and both find it an incredible movie. It has a great script but it did take us a 2nd viewing to understand all the references to characters/past movies. The sound is INCREDIBLE. This is the best demo material I have. I can't really comment on the visuals as we watched it in 3d and we aren't very discriminating when it comes to video. it looked great to us. This will be a must have movie for most AVS enthusiasts.

That'd be AC/DC. I kind of agree though - not much of the score is all that memorable.

I have to give you a little crap on one thing though. You really couldn't remember another rock song from that movie? That one by Black Sabbath? What was the name of that song again? biggrin.gif

I've seen the doc that Sainsburys are touting as an exclusive in the UK and Target in the US.

98mins of "Gee whiz, aren't we great? Wasn't Iron Man 2 and the The Incredible Hulk great? Never mind the fact that we badmouthed them earlier, shhhhhhhh, nobody will remember that...."
