I ordered the Blu-ray from Amazon UK about a month ago and just got the shipping notice. I'm a big fan of Disney's adaptation and it's a shame it isn't on the list for release here in the states this year. I will report on the A/V quality and whether it is truly region free once I get it in.

Had it in my hand today. Appears not to have any lossless audio tracks whatsoever.

Really? Maybe it's a misprint on the label as I can't imagine Disney releasing anything without lossless nowadays. But I'll check when I get it in.

It's definitely not a mis-print. Picked it up for £9.99 in my local Disney Store today. English, French, Spanish, Italian, German, Dutch and Portuguese audio, all in lossy Dolby 5.1.

Disc is a BD-25, encoded in AVC. PQ is acceptable, IMO.

Only extras are the alternate opening, Phil Collins music video and DisneyPedia: Living In The Jungle.

Doesn't sound like it's up to Disney's usual BD standards, but I'll probably still order it. Didn't even know it was available on BD anywhere.

By far the best this movie has ever looked, better than any HDTV broadcast I've ever seen by quite a lot.

So I assume this is regionfree?

Nope. Fills the full 16x9 frame.

And yes, it is region free.

Dolby 640kbps or DVD rate 448?

640 would be the next best thing to lossless (of course lossless is always preferred)...

Sounds like it's best to wait for the U.S. release.

Listen up, studios! Just say "NO" to DNR and EE!!

I've read that the video has some kind of pulsating or flickering effect as well.

Yep, that's what I'm doing. At least it can't get worse, and if it turns out the same, well, I'm not in a hurry for this kind of shovelware release.

Kris,

Any thoughts on the A/V quality of Tarzan?

It's not a particularly good release in my opinion. Lossy audio, very little in the way of extras, zoomed in to full frame instead of 1.66:1, and Paku is right: there's a bizarre flickering effect throughout the film. It looks as if the brightness is continually fluctuating, and while it's more visible in some hues than others, it's a continual irritant. Add to all that some very dodgy compression (there's a tonne of blocking in the darker shades, particularly on Kerchak's fur), and it really does seem like they just shovelled this one out the door.

Haven't got a chance to look at it yet. To say I've been swamped with stuff this last month is an understatement. Work and personal issues have prevented me from watching just about anything. I'm really surprised that Disney released this title given the issues I've seen on the forums. This wasn't one of their crappy B titles that most don't care about. Hopefully the eventual US release will get a MUCH better presentation and feature list. Considering Home on the Range is getting a better release than this, I imagine the eventual US release will be much better. Home on the Range is probably one of the worst Disney films ever, if not the worst.

Well, since they've apparently announced Tarzan 3D I'd say Disney USA is waiting for precisely that.
