Did a search for this but couldn't see any thread for it.

Just got the new Spider-Man trilogy boxset today, and while this is hardly scientific I think Spider-Man has a brand new transfer.

I remember being distinctly unimpressed by the original release, but I had a quick jump around the movie and it looks sharp as a tack with more vibrant colours.

I commpared this screenshot: http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u98/adzez/Spiderman/9e284315.png

from his thread:

http://www.avsforum.com/t/929009/spiderman-trilogy-blu-ray-pix-reviews/30

And this screen looks blurry and dull (colourwise) compared to the new one.

I could be seeing things but that's how it looks to me.

One thing that is certain is that Spider-Man has a new DTS-HD MA 5.1 track.

Do you have the UK boxset or the individual US releases? I didn't think there was a box for the new US releases.

It's the UK release but I'm guessing the US will be exactly the same. It's Region ABC and there's an MPAA rated trailer for the new Spider-Man at the start of the disc.

Spider-Man 2 also has a DTS-HD MA track.

Spider-Man 3 I'm pretty sure is the exact same disc as the previous release. It has LPCM track not DTS. For some reason they dropped the bonus disc.

I never did buy any of these as I'm not the biggest Spider-Man fan, but I'd wouldn't mind buying the first one if it is a new transfer.

There was a thread somewhere I cannot find it either!
I would double dip for a new transfer on the first, but keep the extras disc for 3

The transfers look exactly the same to me.

The new sleeve artwork is dire, but the slipbox is nice.

I just put the new discs for 1 & 2 into old cases and put them into the new box.

Spidey 3 is exactly the same disc 1, from the 2007 set, so obviously I kept the older 2 disc set.

This is for anyone who wants to know if the "new" double-dipped Spiderman trilogy on Blu-ray has any new content or upgrade.

The answer is yes and no, most yes to Spiderman 2/2.1.

Spiderman 1: DTS-HD MA audio change from TruDolby.

Spiderman 2/2.1: DTS-HD MA audio change from TruDolby. It does appear to contain most or all bonus materials from the DVD. On the box, it said to include 3 commentaries, Blooper Reel, Hero in Crisis, Making The Amazing - A 12 Part Documentary, Ock-Umentary: Eight Arms to Hold You, and VFX Breakdowns.

Spiderman 3: Same TruDolby and Uncompressed PCM. Movie disc only.

Plus Ultraviolet copy and $10 movie ticket for Amazing Spiderman.

Update: I'm completely incorrect about Spiderman 1. From IGN:

If you like to know what bonus materials are still missing on the double-dipped version, http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=8475 and see the comparison by spawningblue. It appears 1st movie has the least bonus contents missing.

I did a quick view of Spiderman 2 2nd bonus DVD to see the amount of contents. All the bonus contents are almost 3 hours worth. Spiderman 1 bonus materials appear to be less than 2 hours. That could be the reason the double-dipped Spiderman 2 has more bonus contents dropped or the movie studio doesn't want to pay someone to write a new Java script for animated comic stills for the Blu-ray version. Most of the dropped bonus contents on Spiderman 1 and 2 are animated comic stills that cannot be ported directly to Blu-ray without creating a new Java script.

Here are old info for the original Spiderman Trilogy Blu-ray if anyone is curious.
http://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.php?p=314523&postcount=6

Video Total
Title Codec Bitrate Length Movie Size Disc Size Bitrate Main Audio Track Secondary Audio Track
Spider-Man AVC 26.09 2:01:11 30,791,897,088 32,496,402,276 33.87 Dolby TrueHD 5.1 24-bit (upconverted from a 16-bit master)
Spider-Man 2 (seamless branching) AVC 24.14 2:07:25 36,883,243,008# 49,011,222,186 38.59 Dolby TrueHD 5.1 24-bit
Spider-Man 2.1 (seamless branching) AVC 24.06 2:15:46 39,171,311,616# 38.46 Dolby TrueHD 5.1 24-bit
Spider-Man 3 AVC 26.06 2:19:10 43,368,265,728 48,052,312,355 41.55 Dolby TrueHD 5.1 24-bit LPCM 5.1 4608Kbps

If the older edition of Spiderman 2 has taken 49GB of the disc, then the new edition has to downgrade the video bitrate to fit over 2 hours of bonus materials even they are only SD. DTS-HD MA should also take up more disc space than TruDolby.

Can anyone confirm if Sony is using a better 24-bit for the audio for the new edition?

It's quite the opposite.

I have both the new set and the old one.

In regards to the first movie, the video encode is the same and the audio tracks are also identical in a sense that they are both lossless encodes from the same PCM 48kHz/16bit (the only difference remais for legacy users as the core on the DTS track has a higher bitrate).

Now for Spider-man 2, the lower video bitrate of the new edition has affected the quality of the encode. I did screencaps comparison and the old disc is easily the best of the two in terms of compression. The soundtrack has also been downgraded on the new release, whereas the old one had a 48/24 track, it's now 48/16 on the new release.

In addition to the screencap comparison, I also scanned them with BDinfo.
