Greetings,

I Received a press release from CBS Home Entertainment and Paramount Home Media Distribution regarding an issue with the DTS-HD 7.1 Master Audio sound on some of the discs. Here is the release which provides an outlet for those affected:

Dear Star Trek Fans,

We have discovered an anomaly in the English 7.1 DTS Master Audio track in our Star Trek: The Next Generation Season 1 Blu-ray Box set. There are some episodes that inadvertently had their front channel designations incorrectly mapped, resulting in an undesired playback experience when listening to them in a 7.1 or 5.1 Surround Sound environment.

We are quickly working to remedy the situation. Replacement discs (Disc 1, 3 and 4) will be made available free of charge. Please email phe.stng@bydeluxe.com for details regarding the replacement program. You may also call 877-DELUXE6 (877-335-8936) between 8am to 6pm Pacific, Monday-Friday.

We strive to provide our fans the best Blu-ray experience possible and sincerely apologize for this inconvenience.

Regards,

Thank goodness they jumped on the ball. I hope they will release a new package with fixed audio because I sure don't want to have to go buy the set and then wait for replacement discs so I can enjoy it on my setup.

It looks like they are NOT going to do a recall, which means from here on out, every single copy in stores will be defective. Nice. mad.gif

I have a hard time believing that.

They psuhed off some international releases, most likely to replace the bad set with a new printing. My guess is they'll tell stores to pull it from shelves and wait for the new shipments, but not recall it through the stores, but the disc replacement plan.

I'm sure there's going to be a number of flawed sets sitting on shelves at some retailers for months to come as well as some on line sellers even if there's an aggressive recall (which I doubt). What I hope CBS does, is label the "fixed" sets with a sticker or something so potential future buyers know whether they're getting the original or fixed release.

Is this the same thing as the delayed audio echoing issue people were reporting, or is that another issue yet to be addressed?

Dillon: My men were in that chopper when it got hit! Hopper's orders were to go in and remove grain and the detail just disappeared.
Dutch: It didn't disappear. It was scrubbed alive!

I went to Best Buy yesterday and all the sets were gone except one, which was unmarked with a ripped slipcover and in an inconspicuous location. Given that BB had featured the set in its weekely ad, I believe it pulled everythng off the shelves.

Go Duke !

As the press release states: "There are some episodes that inadvertently had their front channel designations incorrectly mapped" The improper mapping is causing the echo effect on the 7.1 track.

Discussion about this recall has been ongoing on the Star Trek TNG Seasons Remastered thread. Basically when you call or email they will ask you for your contact info, as well as

The entire Inner ID number, located on the back of disc 1, 3 or 4 on the inner hub. It should begin with the letters SL

Sounds like we don't need to send in the flawed discs, which is a nice touch. I appreciate CBS taking care of this in a speedy and efficient manner... Unlike some other flawed releases we've gone through (and in some cases still are). rolleyes.gif

Movies look their best when they look like movies. More Patton-esque remasters!

It is very small, very faint, and on a reflective surface. I had to hold it at just the right angle to see it.
