Very surprised how good this looks. And the surrounds shocked me. Too bad the LFE completely sucks, but that was the 90's.
I actually dragged my wife to the theatrical release and all I remember was she did not like it and John Lequizamo was pretty funny so was almost a blind buy and viewing. For $7.99 I am very happy to have this in my collection as I am a sucker for these 80's and 90's kinds of movies.
I finally got around to watching the Blu-ray. I had previously only watched it once back when it was a DTS laserdisc as a rental so I was fairly unprepared for how good or bad this movie would be. The blu-ray does seem to be a fairly good transfer of an otherwise terrible superhero flick. The CGI of the main demon Mallebogia (sp?) is incredibly sub-par even for it's time and it's a crime that this was apparently the great Nicol Williamson's last movie. Even at sub-$10 price and an above average BR transfer, I would have a hard time recommending this as a purchase.
I remember laughing at the CG in the theater, it was horribly out of its league. Let's think back to the other 1997 films featuring CG for comparison:
The Fifth Element (the list could just stop here)
The Lost World (JP2)
Men in Black
Air Force One (the ending AF1 crash was really bad)
Contact (limited FX, but very well done)
Star Wars Special Editions... *cough* probably not the best example...
For me, at least, the film just isn't worth purchasing or watching on any format. It had a couple cool moments and it had so much POTENTIAL!

I don't know who did the mixing, but my oh my does it rock an HT.
It's a shame this movie doesn't get the respect it deserves.
It is one of the few "comic book movies" that actually looks and feels like a comic book. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120177/
John Lequizamo gives his best performance here.
His muttered one-liners alone are worth the price of admission.
Yes! It does look like a comic book, kind of an alternative indie one. There is a nice rough but intentional quality to it sort of what Rami tried to do with Darkman. I only wish this had done well enough to get a sequel made. It may be time to track down a disc and watch it again.

Maybe they spent too much time on another shot to do any work on that...
