It's coming to Blu-ray courtesy of Mill Creek Entertainment on October 9th. Sadly, no bonus features are coming with this presentation, but it is being packaged with the serviceable The Puppet Masters. You remember that one, don't you? Head over to the website for the specs.

Truely excellent! Just the other day I was wanting to watch Deep Rising, but couldn't face the old non anamorphic DVD. I'd checked Netflix, Vudu, Amazon prime, even the D* schedule, nada. My hopes aren't high for the quality, but it can't be worse than the DVD released in 1998. And The Puppet Masters is a nice bonus as well!

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

I have the anamorphic Dutch DVD for Deep Rising. This needs to be something above Mill Creek's normal crap, for me to pick up.

Wow, 2.0 English audio.. Even the crummy dvd had 5.1 audio. Oh well, for probably about $9 or less, this will at least be a minor visual upgrade over the dvd.

Both of these films deserve better. Especially Deep Rising, which is a guilty pleasure and no 5.1 audio track for a movie - an action-horror movie no less - that was made with a 5.1 audio track is inexcusable. I know they can't improve the visuals of the movie on Blu-Ray without going back to the original elements, but the lack of proper audio is just a kick to the balls.

I preordered this but I hope the 2.0 English soundtrack is a typo. 2.0 English, 5.1 French??? HAS to be a typo.

Amazon's listing for it shows 5.1 for Deep Rising and 2.0 for Puppet Masters.

Someone in another forum emailed Mill Creek about Deep Rising and they responded saying it will in fact have a DTS MA 5.1 track

I'll probably go ahead and pre-order this. I know I've seen The Puppet Masters once. Can't hardly remember it though. I've never seen Deep Rising. Good Deal for $10.

I'm definitely picking this up. Deep Rising is a riot! Not sure if I've seen Puppet Masters but I'll just consider it a bonus. *shrugs*

Here's hoping for a proper DTS-MA 5.1 audio track. smile.gif

Here's hoping for correct aspect ratios across the board

Oh and it's $4.49 over at Importcds.com. Can't add to basket at the moment, unfortunately.

My Amazon pre-order was delivered yesterday, haven't had a chance to watch it yet.

Single disc with a Blu-ray case so thin and light that it flexes easily.

Back cover lists 2.35:1 aspect ratios for both films.

Deep Rising 5.1 DTS-HD MA
Puppet Masters 2.0 DTS-HD MA

I watched The Puppet Masters (1994) last night which for some reason I've never seen before. Decent 'B' movie starring Donald Sutherland. Many of the outdoor shots seemed flat and dull while the interior shots were solid with more clarity, it had the look of a made-for-TV movie. Special effects were convincing enough to make for an entertaining popcorn flick. The DTS-HD MA 2.0 sound was pretty good although I had my Denon pushing it out matrixed to 5.1.

I haven't viewed Deep Rising yet.

Watched the Deep Rising Blu-ray Saturday night, it is a LARGE improvement on the previous non-anamorphic DVD. The picture quality I'd rate 7/10, the close-ups had a lot of detail. The movie is filled with dated CGI but I'm always willing to put that aside given the year of production - 1998. However, you will be hard pressed to find a more aggressive 5.1 soundtrack mix filled with gunfire, monster sounds, ship and hardware sounds - real ear candy and delivered in DTS-MA HD. Recommended.

I remember watching this movie a few years ago and having a similar reaction. Kevin J O'connor plays one of his typically quirky characters too.

Watched my copy the other night. Agreed fully here with Mr.G. The BD stats seems pretty good! Overall video quality was very good for such a cheap disc and nearly 15 year low budget action/sci-fi movie. Awesome sound too. Definitely recommended.

Gotta love Jerry Goldsmith's score.

Received my copy today and for a hump and dump title, Deep Rising put some of Disney's 'proper' catalogue transfers to shame.

Sure, it'd be nice to have it on a BD-50 on it's own, but I'll take what I can get here and it's nothing to be sniffed at.

The audio is pure awesome-sauce.

Region free, for peeps that have to worry about such matters.

I started watching Deep Rising, you know it is science fiction when Kevin J Oconnor's character is hooking up with the hot Korean lady! Some of the outdoor scenes look like upscaled DVD, some of the interior closeups are incredibly sharp and detailed.

Both Deep Rising and Puppet Masters were better than I had expected and no Teal push.

I was surprised to see Famke Janssen in Deep Rising, so it can never be all bad.
