Cool. I loved Von Ryan's Express, a movie I saw in it's first run as a 9 year old smile.gif. I saw it again a few times in between, still love it, might have to pickup the BD. Patton maybe.

Seeing Von Ryan's Express coming to BD reminded me that it would be nice to see The Train come to BD also.

Wait, same transfer that was stripped of all grain? Or is it an actual FILM transfer this time?

It may or may not be the same film scan, but there is no excessive DNR this time (finally!).

link? Just watched Patton yesterday and boy, was it weird not seeing any grain at all. Felt like GI Joe action figures were on screen during the battle scenes.

Bear in mind that, even without the DNR, you're still unlikely to see much in the way of grain in a good transfer of this 65mm film- it's very fine and subtle.

Yes- on November 6th, proceed to your local store and hand them some money; they will exchange it for a copy of the new Patton disc.

Or, when you want to watch the movie, looking much better in many respects than the DVD, during the five years between the last DVD release and the upcoming corrected Blu-ray release.

When was the re-mastering done for this re-release of "Patton"?
and/or
When was the new scan of "Patton" done for this transfer?

"I wonder if any of the releases had slipcovers though."
"Are these comfirmed to have slipcovers?"
"They look nice in those slips."
"This slipcover looks too good to pass up."

Yes and don't you forget it.
I bought Patton for like 10 bucks knowing full well the inexcusable wax works treatment it got. Great film.
I also paid more for a flawless transfer that was a piece of sh!t as a film.
Both were mistakes and I apologize.rolleyes.gif

Fox should have an exchange program ala Gladiator, which was no where near as bad as Patton.
I know people love to bash Universal but at least they've done exchange programs more than once.
Given Fox's arrogance imo, I think it's doubtful.

One might also consider to do a bit of research and watch Patton in 70mm. Worked fine for me and a very nice print, saw it twice.

And thanks for explaining how the exchange program works for Patton, simple yet effective - for Fox biggrin.gif

By the way: According to somebody working for the company who did the previous work on Patton the last 4k scan was not saved for posterity. So Patton as we get it now will most likely be from a new 4k or 8k scan.

I hope that there will be a way to figure out a way to differentiate this version of Patton from the previous version. Does anyone have any information on this? I never bought the previous version but Patton is a favorite film and I will likely get this version if the reviews are good.

It's a completely different product so you will know the difference as it will be abundantly clear by the packaging and extras list not to mention the price.

I just saw Patton last Thursday and the DNR didn't bother me in the least.

That's because I borrowed it from my library and I decided to just enjoy the movie instead of staring at the crap transfer. But when I buy it in November, it better be fixed. biggrin.gif

I would think this is going to be a splendid transfer now that they are done with the 'testing'. Also, that Gladiator was pretty bad IDK. I hope they do the same with Predator and other 'focus tested' releases.

This is one of my favorite films of all time. I've watched the BD probably five times despite it's state. This should be like seeing it for the first time (fingers crossed).

Pre-order this re-master from importcds for $15.
Another site reported they were invited to a screening of the re-mastered blu-ray at a theater and it looked great, i.e., grain and detail intact.
I pre-ordered based on their reaction.
Finally!
