I have this coming today, not expecting much given the craptastic catalog releases we seem to get but I love the movie so fingers crossed. Anyone else?

Bought it, watched it, sold it.

AV is solid, but it's still the altered version.

Just didn't enjoy it as much as I remember.

The sculpture in Pacino's office was altered digitally for copyright reasons, years ago.

It still remains altered.

I have no idea what's supposedly so 'Unrated Director's Cut' about this, I hadn't seen it in years.

"The film was the subject of legal action following its release. The claim was that the sculpture featuring human forms in John Milton's apartment closely resembled the Ex nihilo sculpture by Frederick Hart on the facade of the Episcopal National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., and that a scene involving the sculpture infringed Hart's rights under copyright law. After a federal judge ruled that the film's video release would be delayed until the case went to trial unless a settlement was reached, Warner Bros. agreed to edit the scene for future releases and to attach stickers to unedited videotapes to indicate there was no relation between the sculpture in the film and Hart's work."

I don't even know if the original version made it to dvd...but I guess WB still can't release the film as originally showed in theaters.

I wouldn't know the difference, don't think I ever saw the original "unaltered version" but maybe an import would fetch the other version? I really like the movie and will keep it regardless, Pacino and CT give some pretty stellar performances.

There you go....

After a little research, the first edition of the dvd featured the original, unedited, material. Then WB got sued, was forced to recall and edited the scene. Even the director's cut won't show the original.

ORIGINAL

EDITED

FYI, here's the original sculpture "Ex Nihilo" from Frederick Hart, which can be seen at the front of the Washington National Cathedral

Voilà. smile.gif

Wait a sec, don't the people in that thing start making out and eventually freaking out? Did they remove all of that too??? Maybe I did see the original.

I don't have the Blu-ray yet but I have the movie in iTunes... I just checked and that particular shot is precisely at 01:57:02, it doesn't even last one second. Then at 01:57:22 we see it again and people start moving, a 2 seconds sequence, that one is edited cause we don't see any people in there, just that it's moving. The rest of the scene is intact, and YES people are still visible, making out and stuff, during the entire scene between Pacino and Reeves. But the sculpture is never fully visible at that point so I guess that's why they could leave as it was without editing it. Pretty cool scene btw! it's been a while since I've seen it wink.gifcool.gif

Man, that DVD looks terrible. I haven't watched it in a while but I didn't remember it looking that bad. I'll probably upgrade this one when it's in the sub-$10 range.

The DVD is beyond bad. Just horrible. Unwatchable by today's standards.

This film has never been demo material. Visually "meh".

I liked the film mostly. A little cheese here and there. You have to be one huge douchebag to take people to court for that stuff.

It's been awhile since I watched this, I really enjoyed it. Wasn't too bad either.
