Brand new model Sony BDP-S5100 bluray player, not even available in the US yet,
just installed and updated to the latest firmware today.
Set to bitstream Dolby TrueHD to my Yamaha RX-V3900,
Loaded Directors Cut Total Recall and made it about half way through without issue...then it went to crap.
I hit the apartment scene (the one with the Piano) where I had 4 audio drops in a row, within about 5 minutes.
Shut it off, thought the bitstreamed audio sounded no better than the LPCM version played by my Fat PS3...that was flawless.
Thank goodness it only cost me $139 to find out bitstream audio offered no significant advantage, other than seeing a few pretty lights on my AVR for the first time.
instead it was just a major playback disadvantage over pcm. In "my experience" (ymmv)
At least I have an SACD player again, and I can tell the 5.1 actually sounds different than the 2.0 version on a standard CD.
Currently playing my new Eagles Farewell concert on BD (bitstreamed) and comparing to my old HD DVD.
DTS-HD master audio lights sure are pretty
(much nicer logo over the TrueHD one on TR lol.)
