Not sure what you are referring to here, 2001 is one of if not the best looking sci-fi Blu-Rays I have seen.

I am not going to derail the tread going back and forth about something that has already been well covered. The fact that a certain poster 'agrees' with you proves my point.

there have been a few movies that, when we saw them we left the theater in awe.
First was Aliens
Then Terminator 2
Then the Matrix
Then Serenity
Then 2009 Star Trek

Oh, probably the most enjoyable audience participation sci fi movie was the Star Trek with the whales (was that IV - the Voyage Home?)

Of those, the one I watch the most is Star Trek with Chris Pine.

Suit yourself, but you were the one who brought it up by saying "2001 misses my list due to thin EE." I simply wanted to know what you meant specifically because I haven't noticed any issue with the film on Blu-Ray. If you didn't want to get into any discussion about that then why even mention it?

This is too much like trying to decide which is your favorite child. I find good science fiction films, like good fantasy films (such as Lord of the Rings) to be the most re-watchable of any film genres. I could happily sit through any of the following films (which I just cannot boil down to 5). In alphabetical order:

12 MOnkeys
2001: A Space Odyssey
Aliens (plus all the rest of 'em, including Prometheus!)
Avatar
Blade Runner
Brazil
Fifth Element
Galaxy Quest
Inception
The Matrix
Star Trek: First Contact (plus all the rest of 'em!)
Star Wars
Terminator 2

For science fiction series, my favorites would have to be:

Battlestar Gallactica (SciFi)
Enterprise (final season)
Firefly / Serenity
Star Trek: DS9
Stargate (SG1 / Atlantis and even Universe)

Side note about Khan:
I like Khan but if you think about it there are so many things that make no sense in it I cannot watch it anymore. Why did they not KNOW which planet they were on when they bumped into Khan? They had computers to keep track of things and I would think that if something exploded in that part of space that somebody would have noticed it. Also with Khan being such a threat it would seem that at the least Chekov & Star Fleet would have remembered where Kirk had dropped Khan off and it wouldn't have been such a surprise. Why did they not just beam up from inside the containers, you do not have to go outside to beam up...also, when you do go outside and see those figures why would you not beam up then? Why did the earwigs make the captain and Chekov only take orders from Khan? They should have been susceptible to suggestions from anyone, which means they would not just turn "bad" and do Khan's bidding.

Seriously? What about Chekov recognizing Khan when he wasn't even on the ship yet when that episode was filmed. Walter Koenig even admitted he kept his mouth shut about that because he knew it made no sense.

Yeah sure, it was valid speculation pre-18th Century that there would some day be ghost pirate ships helmed by human/sea life hybrids....

No order:
Alien/Aliens/(3 &4 in the series are garbage: In our family "verse", Riply made it home with Hicks, Newt and Bishop. Hicks & Riply got married, adopted Newt and they all lived "happily ever after)/Prometheus
The Matrix
2001 a Space Odessy
Star Wars 4 "A New Hope"
The Fifth Element
... "Where did he learn to 'negotiate' like that?" ... I wonder.

Honorable mention,no specific order (Yes I know... some are guilty pleasures):

Serenity
Blade Runner
Star Trek II The Wrath of Kahn
Star Trek (2009)
2010
Matrix Reloaded, Matrix Revolution... Because they wrapped up all the story lines
War of the Worlds (2005) Provides an honest portrayal into how ordinary people would react.
Terminator 2
Galaxy Quest
Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow: This movie was ground-breaking and multitudes of Sci-Fy and other movies that have created complete universes and sets out of nothing but "green screen" owe this movie, its director, the exceptional cast of top quality actors (who worked on the film for peanuts because they realized the vision), along with all of the countless CG people who worked on it a tremendous debt of gratitude.
Avatar (Dances with Wolves in Space BUT the scope of the visuals and the technology to bring it all to pass... nothing short of ground breaking)
District 9
2012
Pitch Black
Star Wars 3 Revenge of the Sith
Star Wars 5 The Empire Strikes Back

Sorry, I mean Stand Alone Complex (and 2nd Gig), the TV series that follows the original GITS film. Solid State Society is an original video animation (OVA) that follows 2nd Gig.

Bandai Visual is no longer offering Blu/DVD products so this is your last chance to get them as they will stop shipments to retailers in the next few months.

That's fantastic news for folks that don't have the films or OVAs, it's just too bad that we don't have the full TV series on Blu-ray yet. $180 per half-season from Amazon Japan is a bit steep for me. Someday I might drop $700 on the whole series, but I don't like buying lotto tickets...

These are the kind of posts that pollute Blu-Ray.com

The proper setting for sharpness is always0.
Also my Oppo BDP-103D is region free.
That makes me awesome.

On one hand, you have a point. On the other, what's worse, 'favorite' threads, or endless bickering by the same 5 people about what a blu-ray transfer should look like?
