So unbelievably pleased to be able to look forward to showing this to friends who still haven't seen it, but finlly in high def. Any ideas what the transfer will be like? Is it the directors choice? Hope so as Miami Vice & Collateral are excellent

I have to say, that while the increased resolution compared to the crappy DVD is great, the orange-and-teal color push drove me absolutely nuts. In the dinner scene with Pacino, Plummer, and Crowe's family, everyone's skin tones look like John Boehner. Just unforgivable that the film's color palette would be manipulated this garishly.

Blu-Ray: 489
HD DVD: 187

Agreed, the image is incredibly crushed and "crunchy" too. Yet another blu-ray that I "re-grade" in my projector. In this case, I give the lower part of the gamma curve a lift -- which simultaneously mutes the nuclear color palette just a bit.

I maintain a whole data-base for my blu-rays (something I never had to do with my DVDs) which tracks all the changes I need to make on a title-by-title basis, in order for the movie to "look right" to my eyes. I certainly can't rely on my perfectly-calibrated projector anymore, with the kind of catalog releases that have been coming out (like RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK, FOTR EE, and the new TEALMINATOR). Literally one-fourth of my collection needs some kind of tweaking in order for me to enjoy that particular title without distraction. And I'm not one of those guys who's never happy, either; once I make the changes to each individual movie, I'm incredibly satisfied with the results--even with FOTR EE... I'm just surprised how high maintenance my blu-ray collection is. And now, THE INSIDER has been added to that list.
