I'm in the process of building out a home theater, and prior to finalizing certain decisions (3D or not, number of channels, primary video source, aspect ratio handling, etc.), I wanted to catalog the movies I own or would like to see. I've got around 300 movies on the list now, and I've partially cataloged about 100 at this point. Thought some of you might be interested as well.

I'd describe the mix of movies as roughly 10% kids / 90% non-kids; 70% since 1990 / 20% from 1970 to 1990 / 10% from prior to 1970; 50% "guy" / 10% "chick-ish" / 40% androgynous.

At this point, here are the counts of some of the variables:

3D: 4 yes, 89 no

Blu Ray Availability: 80 yes, 13 no

Audio Encoding:

Dolby Dig 1.0 2
Dolby Dig 5.1 4
Dolby THD 5.1 14
Dolby THD 7.1 2
DTS 5.1 1
DTS MA 1.0 3
DTS MA 2.0 2
DTS MA 5.1 33
DTS MA 6.1 1
DTS MA 7.1 1
LPCM 1.0 1
LPCM 5.1 3
Not yet known 25

A few things that interested me: 3D is pretty rare, Blu Ray availability is pretty common, 7-channel audio is rare (3 out of 68 known), DTS is used by nearly a 2:1 margin over Dolby.

I'll update this when I finish the cataloging, and I'll add some others as well -- aspect ratio, NetFlix streaming availability, DirecTV availability. If there's anything else people would be interested to see, let me know and I can try to include that as well.
