This is Cinerama is now available on Blu Ray, anyone bought? If so, how is it, compared to How the West was Won?

I'm DVRing it now from TCM, but it's far from pristine... cool.gif

No comparison really. HTWWW was remastered in 3x 2k resolution from the original 3-strip negatives. This was made from a faded, low-quality 70mm dupe.

It certainly does not look as good as HTWWW, but short of someone pumping millions into a restoration that would never be earned back, the BD of This Is Cinerama is as good as it can look.

It's a travelog, like most of the Cinerama pictures. It really only works if you see it with the 3 projector system,sitting in the middle, with the image filling your whole peripheral vision. Even seen that way, it's just barely tolerable.

Yeah it would cost millions to turn off the thick dnr and other heavy filtering that reduces it to dvd level pq if not vhs if the caps are correct.

You should actually watch it and the restoration documentary which explains why it looks the way it does. If you don't want to watch it, there are a number of online stories also detailing the project.
