I don't think the BDs ever had an issue. It was the original DVD release where the cropping on the some of the FX was incorrect on parts II and III.

Some complained that the BDs were DNR'd but Universal has not reissued improved versions.

Yes, it came down to a filtering issue (DNR and edge enhancement). Basically, (many) people were disappointed by the sub-standard transfer for a movie series that they felt deserved much better. It comes down to it being "better than the DVD" but not "good enough" by the standards of some...

This thread will probably be locked or merged with the BttF thread, FYI.
