"From Beyond" which streets tomorrow (3/26) arrived early over the weekend thanks to Amazon and I got around to watching it and skimming through the extras early tonight. I saw it when it originally had it's theatrical run, bought the full frame laserdisc, the upgraded Elite letterboxed LD, the remastered dvd with the cut footage and now this new Scream Factory Blu-ray.

My initial thoughts are the transfer is basically from the same excellent source used for the 2007 remastered dvd which includes previously unseen unrated footage such as the extended "eyeball sucking" scene. That said, the Blu-ray transfer manages to improve upon the older dvd by a noticeable margin - there's even more fine detail, blacks are deeper without obliterating previously seen detail and colors (this is a VERY colorful film) are vivid yet stable. The movie looks excellent, imo.

The extras include what appear to be all the stuff from the '07 dvd as well as significant new features and interviews with Stuart Gordon and Jeffrey Combs.

Fans of this movie, even those that have the remastered dvd should be VERY happy with this release.

Good to hear.

My copy (along with Phantasm II) shipped out on Monday. Been looking forward to these 2 releases from Scream Factory.

One problem... there's a foot of snow on the ground here and I don't know if my UPS driver will attempt a delivery on Tuesday because of it. mad.gif

Just ordered this from Amazon. I have never seen it but love Jeffry Combs in the Reanimator series and The Frighteners.

Yay! biggrin.gif

UPS decided to brave my road and driveway to deliver. I'm going to try to watch From Beyond tonight and Phantasm II tomorrow.

The 5.1 track is a waste.
The original stereo surround beats the pants off of it.

The proper setting for sharpness is always0.
Also my Oppo BDP-103D is region free.
That makes me awesome.

i wouldn't call it director's cut because there is still footage missing

1. splitted head from pretorious gets ripped off

2. crawford talks to pretorius, both only have their heads left while lying in pretorius-monster, at the end. then crawford bites pretorius.

there might be some other stuff missing as well... but we'll never know.

the two scenes can be seen in the "stephen king: this is horror" documentary within the charles band interview.

my DVD collection <- not all dvds from me are included there ;)

yeah- but did Gordon want those two scenes in his final cut?

The proper setting for sharpness is always0.

the first scene was clearly a mpaa cut. the other, i don't know. there is no audio track from that while it plays over the charles band interview. i think the scene are missing. mr. gordon and the others don't say anything about these scenes in the audio commentary.

I read about this back when Monsters HD helped with the restoration. Gordon made his director's cut for the theatrical film and the MPAA cuts went into a box that was marked "For the VHS release". The footage was finally found and put back in, so I can only assume that the scenes above were cut because he didn’t want them in the movie in the first place.
