Django Unchained

For anyone who missed out on the theatrical release of Quentin Tarantino's critically acclaimed film Django Unchained, you will soon get your chance to own it. Nominated for five Oscars, Django includes an all-star cast of very talented actors, which certainly helped in Tarantino's telling of this action-packed western. The latest Tarantino spaghetti western is scheduled to be released April 16, 2013 on a Blu-ray/DVD/Ultraviolet/Digital Copy combo disc pack.

Terminator Anthology

Like most people who own the Terminator movies on Blu-ray, I was hoping that a box set would include improved transfers, but alas, it isn't so—the discs in the Terminator Anthology are essentially the same as the individual releases. If you waited for a box set, now is your chance to add it to your collection, but don't expect the best possible Blu-ray experience. Due to be released March 26, 2013.

Here's a glimpse at the disc specs:

The Terminator—Codec: MPEG-4 AVC (32.00 Mbps), English: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 (48kHz, 24-bit)

Terminator 2: Judgment Day—Codec: VC-1 (19.27 Mbps), English: DTS-HD Master Audio 6.1

Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines—Codec: VC-1, English: Dolby Digital 5.1 (no lossless audio!)

Terminator Salvation—Codec: VC-1 (25.60 Mbps), English: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 (48kHz, 24-bit)

The Great Escape

I still remember the day I picked this up on DVD and was mesmerized by the transfer. It is too early to know which video and audio codec the studio will choose for the Blu-ray version, but this will always remain a wonderful classic for me, mainly due to the all-star cast and the great escape itself. Release is set for May 7, 2013, just in time for its 50th anniversary.

Which one(s) are you planning on buying?

Sounds like the remastered Terminator circa 2013 is not in the collection. I caught a brief glimpse of the remaster and it was impressive you could tell right away by the vivid colors and clarity. Arnold at his mechanical best as he cuts wide swathes through LA's finest.

Django Unchained and The Great Escape are definitely at the top of my list. Besides that, Silver Linings Playbook (the last best picture nominee I have yet to see), and Cloud Atlas. Plus, I saw 3 classic westerns are scheduled for a late spring release: Shane, 3:10 to Yuma (the original), and Jubal. I'm looking through the BD release schedule through June, and its pretty bare pickins really. In the Name of the Father, and maybe White Heat and The Public Enemy are the only other titles that really interested me.

I'm assuming the original Terminator BD (T1) is different from the one I have that has an uncompressed PCM 5.1 mix. And for the love of God would someone please remaster the Audio front T3 and give it an uncompressed mix. The regular DD mix is outstanding on it's own, I can only imagine what a TrueHD or DTS-HD mix would sound like.

I will definitely be buying Django unchained. Since the terminator set is the same quality as the single discs I already own I'll just fill in the ones I'm missing.

Terminator 3 was released in the UK by Sony with lossless TrueHD 5.1 audio.

Region-free. Easy to import from Amazon UK. Not as cheap as the American copy can be found in bargain bins here, but not egregiously expensive either, IMO.

Django has already made it into the top 50 on IMDB's top 250 movies. I didn't see it yet but I hear it's good. I pretty much like anything with Samuel L Jackson, great actor. Jamie Foxx, eh he's overrated.

Same here, I will try and return in and get the one from the UK. Also my earlier copies as most have mentioned are nothing like the ones re-released. The picture quality is so so.

Still a huge fan of the first and second.

I "missed" Django Unchained in the theaters, because I'm never going to a movie theater again—if I can help it. The teens can have the mega-stadiums. HT forever!

I bought the pre-release Blu-ray package with digital early release. Only a few more days before I can check it out on Vudu HDX.

I just bought the Django pre purchase blu-ray combo pack from Wallyworld. I guess the movie will be available on Vudu April 2nd and they send you the blu-ray on the 16th. Good deal for 17 bucks.

Django is a day 1 purchase even though it's not one of QT's strongest flicks.
Best Buy have an exclusive Blu-ray release of this too if anyone is interested.
Their item descriptions have always sucked though so good luck trying to figure out what it includes.

I have told my wife that when I die I wish to be buried in a steel book. A large one albeit, but yes, a steel book.

Import T3 only if you liked the movie. Alas, I did not. Only T1 and T2 are in the canon, in my book. T4 was a complete disaster. Very worried about T5.

Listen up, studios! Just say "NO" to DNR and EE!!

If you're talking about cutting about 25 minutes OUT of it...I'm in. Great movie but it was just a little too long for me.

Hopefully, the remix was fixed with the famous dinosaur roar sound effect (also used in Jaws) reinstated.
