Kentai and Caps-A-Holic suggest so...

The proper setting for sharpness is always0.
Also my Oppo BDP-103D is region free.
That makes me awesome.

The same company released a POLICE STORY/POLICE STORY II double feature they knew to be upscales. Blatantly knew. And they did it anyway.

It's more likely the transfer was taken from a badly-dated master, probably created more than a decade ago. I do have a copy of this disc and will report back when I watch it.

It's highly unlikely it's an upscale. It's certainly not a top tier transfer from a pristine source but imo, it blows away any previous home video release of this film.

It isn't blowing anything away. The cropping is bad enough, never mind anything else.

I may stand corrected. Which (dvd?) release is the top screen cap from? I have the German 2 disc dvd release from "Marketing Films" which had some of the same bonus features the new BR has and was at least at the time I picked it up, supposedly the best looking transfer of this film. The German dvd aside from being significantly rougher looking and I believe non-anamorphic, also features the same framing and 'warm" color timing as that bottom screen cap.
