These have been up for preorder for about a week or two, but I thought I'd spread the word to those of you who are interested. Lost of family favorites here:

Robin Hood (1973) - August 6 - This is my favorite of all Disney animated films. Great music, great voice acting, great artwork and characters.

The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (1977) - August 27 - Classic.

The Sword in the Stone (1963) - August 6 - Not sure this was ever a huge hit, but it's got some memorable parts.

Mary Poppins (1964) - TBD - Practically perfect in every way... except Dick Van Dyke's cockney accent. LOL

Oliver and Company (1988) - August 6 - I think I saw this on VHS once, don't know much about it...

The Muppet Movie (1979) - August 13 - The one I've been waiting for! Now we just need The Great Muppet Caper...

I wonder why they are still sitting on 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea after spending the time and money to do a restoration a few years ago?

Yup, I've been wondering, as well. My pet theory is that Disney's saving it for the 60th anniversary next year.

I am not a fan of Disney dumping all of these Blu-rays on the market at once. Retail stores will likely carry few, if any, of these movies upon release. I understand why Disney does it this way, it's driven by accounting to hit their quarterly earnings estimates and when they book revenue, instead of a coherent marketing strategy.

The 40th anniversary was 2004--somebody just took old art and slapped it onto a BD template. Disney would be nuts to not have this out by the end of the year and miss out on Christmas sales and Saving Mr. Banks. They'll probably still call it a "50th Anniversary Edition," though.

As for 20,000 Leagues, I suspect they want to release it closer to the David Fincher remake, which just got pushed back again (to 2015 at the earliest).

Or just give it a pointless moniker like "Practically Perfect Edition" or "Spit Spot Edition" or something.

More than likely, it will be the "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Edition". They might have to curve the text a lot to fit it all on the box, though...

Second runner up might be the "Spoonfull of Sugar" edition...

I do not see this posted elsewhere, first peek at Mary Bobbins:
http://www.blu-raydefinition.com/reviews/mary-poppins-50th-anniversary-edition-blu-ray-review.html

Only 10 images to go by and we probably need more, anyway the few images of the live action footage looks great with plenty of detail and film grain but the optical shots look more processed in comparsion.

Looks pretty good. You had me worried when you called it Mary Bobbins. I thought you were going to say that it was 1080i bobbed to 1080p or something. biggrin.gif

Also looks great over at caps-a-holic:

http://www.caps-a-holic.com/hd_vergleiche/multi_comparison.php?disc1=3354&disc2=3355&hd_multiID=1395#auswahl

Looks like they did this right! Film grain: intact. Correct aspect ratio: preserved. Original theatrical mix: included. What's not to love?

After plowing though the 40 images on the blu-ray site I noticed except for the bankers scene (where the brats are taught a very good lesson) there is a blue shift in the images where as the dvd had an orange shift in the caps-a-holic images.

The cartoon sequences again look scrubbed more then a little bit so I do not think Disney has changed it ways, Tron after all had film grain as did Toyland and Pete's Dragon although the later got more scrubbed as the film progressed.

I bought Mary Poppins... I was not impressed with the transfer. So so colors, detail was inconsistent. The animated scenes were pretty bad. I understand mixing live action over animation reduces the image quality, but it was worse than expected.

Sword in the Stone was horrible. They scrubbed the image clean. It does not look anywhere like film.

If it's not a BIG screen, it's not a theater...

That's surprising to hear and also contrary to reviews. Was it that your expectations were set too high? I supposed I'll find out soon as I expect to receive it as a Christmas gift. confused.gif
