I hope this is the correct forum to post this question...

I have quite a collection of Blu-rays, and I read that a lot of people rip their Blu-ray collection to a central media server for easier access.

My questions are mostly regarding the audio of the Blu-ray:

1. Ripping the Blu-ray obviously means compressing video & audio? Does the ripped file still have the original Audio decoding for example DTS Master Audio, Dolby True HD...?
2. What software do you guys use to rip the Blu-rays?
3. What software do you use to play your Blu-rays?

I've seen .mkv is a popular file type to use. Can this file type retain the original audio decoding?

I just don't see the point of having all my Blu-rays on a central server, if they didn't retain their original Audio decoding. It's all about the SOUND!

Thanks

I normally use imgburn in conjunction with AnyDVD HD to make ISOs. Some people use MakeMKV, DVDFab, or ClownBD. It just depends on what you want to do and what you feel comfortable with. Each one will allow you to keep the HD audio.

A good place to look would be the Ripping Blu-ray 2 thread. It has some excellent information regarding ripping.
